Bye bye street bike!!!

there's those quick fastener/dzu thingies on your upper already which means the previous owner mustve had the belly pan on it at some point right?

I've never ridden a trackday without a belly pan, i'm guessing they could turn you away without one, it can catch potential leaking fluids from your bike.

Yes I'm doing that now. All the fluids look good from my inspection. Even the owner said after the sale the fluids are good. At that point he didn't really need to lie. Should I go ahead and change them anyways?

Also I can't seem to get the belly fairing on. The cat and exhaust pipes seem to be in the way. Is it ok to track with out it. All the fairing on the bike are solid and won't go anywhere.

Call the person you bought the bike from and ask how they fitted the BP.

Kinda odd it was off, maybe it never fit.
 
I've seen many bikes many times at TMP with no belly pan, or even no fairings at all.
 
Belly pans are generally only required for racing, but some track day organizers (sportbike track time down in the states for sure) may require full race prep to run in the fast group because of the close proximity that the bikes ride to each other.

Looking good op! How much have you setup the bike for yourself? Trying to haul around a track with poorly setup suspension is scary and doesn't inspire confidence. Make sure the sag is set for your weight and the knobs are all turned in a fashion that lets the suspension work. To throw another wrench into the equation, what does fluids being good even mean? Fluids aren't just oil, your forks should get freshened every year with new oil, and the shock should get a freshen every few years at the very least.

Might also be a good idea to look into getting some instruction! Whether it be a formal school or getting an expert level rider to follow you and show you a few things can make a huge difference not only in your riding but towards not falling down. Now is the time where creating a good foundation will help you grow in leaps and bounds

I agree and disagree. I found it hard to just cruise on a ss. I would get quite bored and tend to do silly things.
Isn't that exactly the point though? It's the same thing i think every time i see a super car cruising down the highway doing 120. Apart from making your ego feel good driving a race vehicle on the street is asinine because you're either not using it, or are using it and about to have your license taken away. Riding on the street can be great if you buy something designed for the street, and have the attitude that it is just a more fun way of commuting. To go out on the street with an SS bike looking for a thrill is a losing battle, race vehicles belong on a race track, thats what they're designed for.
 
If the bike is on a front stand that lifts under the triple clamp it's probably pressing on the front of the upper fairing. Take the bike off the front stand and I bet it will line up.

Wouldnt worry too much about the fluids but check nuts/bolts are tight and wiring to make sure it isn't chafing on anything.

Yes I took tmp's intro to track school. I will have my local mechanic set up my sag preload and rebound before I go to the track. As for the fluids I just recently did my old bike and the fluids I removed were dirty and dark in colour. The brake fluids, distilled water and oil look brand new from the bottle. I didn't check the fork oil but they aren't leaking.
 
Fork oil needs to be replaced every season, it wears out just like the oil in your engine but he may very well have changed it at the beginning of the season. If you're running in novice group you wont be pushing the front end hard enough for it to matter, but it's something to think about for next season.
 
Understand the track obsession. I too sold my street bike this spring and now only have a track bike.

Happy with the move. That said ill probably get a street bike again in time but something just to put around on

What every season?? That seems excessive. It's not a race bike only an armature track bike. I will keep that in mind next season.
 
I've never heard such advice before either. I doubt many people replace the fork oil on inverted forks so often as not everybody would be willing to open them up themselves. Standard forks are much easier though. Also--never heard you don't need good suspension even in novice group. Good suspension makes you faster IMO. Daisoman---you seem like you did great on your first trackday, I wouldn't be surprised if you advance pretty fast into the faster groups.

Some people change fork oil every other race. Also upgraded suspension doesn't necessarily make you faster. It just depends on how it's set up. Stock suspension is designed for someone my weight so there's no point upgrading until I need to really fine tune it. I know someone that runs 1:16s on a stock Gixxer at tmp with no issues.

So true. After seeing some if my friends post of their weekend rides made me really jealous. I'm kinda missing my street bike already. Fml
