B'mer Obsessed - S1000R

I wouldn't be complaining if I only ride my bike on the track but again there's no point to get the Tuono if I only wanna do track. My gix can do just fine, it is built for that purpose :)

It could be worse ... he could get a bike and then complain he gets only 180 clicks to a tank .. LOL

Mine is L2 600 and the best I can get is 25 km per litre, that's a little over 400 km a tank. Commuting to downtown Toronto dropped it to only 16 km per litre. I know it's rare but in my case it's pretty consistent.

350km per tank on a gixxer? What do you have a gs500?
I remember correctly on my K7 gix 750 I would be around 230ish with the fuel light on.

Sorry to interrupt but if anyone wants a full Hindle system for this bike I know of one - it's $400 firm.
Really nice bike, wish I had the pennies for it
Thanks!

Seems like a valid measure to me. I don't care less if I put 17 or 19 L of gas in it. More important is how far I can go on 1 tank.

Thanks for the info. Booked myself a ride on SuperDuke 1290 R!
What surprises me the most is that, according to GP Bikes, all SD 1290 had been sold before they even hit Canadian border. I'd never fork off $20K+ on a bike without test ride it first. How people do that is beyond me...

OMG it's finally here. Picked up the new White S1000R today. I've had the farkles for what seems like months just waiting for the bike to arrive. Needless to say, we spent the afternoon putting everything on:

Carbon Fibre front and rear huggers
Pazzo levers
LED signals front and back
R&G Tail Tidy
Attack rear sets
Sato case sliders

Waiting on Techspec tank grip and R&G shark fin. The sad part is ... IT'S RAINING!!!! Going to spend the next 3 days on the road throughout Ontario to try her out. Can't wait

It was nice meeting you guys today. Your long wait was definitely worth it! Beautiful ride!

Thanks Kevin. It was a pleasure meeting you as well. Like we said, if you want to join us on a track day with your beast, you are more then welcome.

I turned 1000 klms on the bike in 3 days. Time to take it in for 1000 klm service and chip. Can't wait

Congrats! As if that S1000R isn't pretty enough in it's own right those sick mods should remove any doubt. Pity the fool who parks a KTM beside it.

Aaaaahhhhhaaa that was funny. Just can't lose the guy on the KTM, keeps following me around LOL

^ Had a quick look at your bike today Brian. Looks great. I think we've chatted briefly in the past (drag setup blue ZX10?)

So you recall making the comment to me at Belfountain? My reaction wasn't what I wanted it to be as I was somewhat distracted, you repeated it. I think I gave a lame smile. Sorry about that.

Finally got the chance to ride a S1000R over 430kms last Friday. Enjoyed the hell out of it - the torque beyond 6k is unreal. Not sure the bike makes sense for my daily inner-city needs, since at 50-55km/h you really need to be in 1st else you're lugging the engine.

Not a fan of the feel-less shifter and it took me a while to get used to the tiny handlebar controls. But these are minor quibbles.

All in all, what a machine. I'm still very much a newbie and the bike's electronic aids, along with the massive rear tire, make for a surprisingly easy machine to handle.

This clip was shot in or around Lachute, QC, which is known for its twisty roads... they did not disappoint:

Hey Matt glad you had a chance to ride the S1KR. You're right about inner-city. The heat from the bike is brutal if you are stuck in traffic. I'm loving the bike but my riding is always north of the city. I've been caught in traffic a couple of times and it gets really really hot.

Safe riding :)

I bought the previous generation R without test riding it. In fact I wasn't even shopping for a new bike, but it was sitting outside a store and the owner of the place offered to fire it up for me, just to listen to the exhaust. I signed the papers 20 minutes later. Best money ever spent on a motorcycle, and I've had a bunch. I have no doubt whatsoever that the 1290 is going to be completely bonkers.. I'd buy it sight unseen.

tell me more about these roads. Looks great.

That is the 327, a north/south road that goes through Lachute and well beyond. Probably not worth going out of your way just to ride it - like most roads in QC, it's in pretty rough shape (you can't see it in the vid because I've applied YouTube's anti-shake filter thingie). Good times though if you ever find yourself in the area.

That reminds me, I messed with the BMW's DDC a lot but I don't think I felt a difference between "soft", "normal" and "hard".

Same with the riding modes - I could feel somewhat of a difference in throttle response between the default "Road" mode and the "Dynamic Pro" mode, but that's it. All modes have gobs of traction control and it's impossible to lift the front wheel without disabling DTC.

If I were to buy one of these I'd get the plain-jane version. Insane value at the base price of $14.7k - my brother's $11k Street Triple R seems way overpriced in comparison.
