^^ It wasn't until Androids ICS that they allowed the option of wifi or cellular, but by default they force app updates over wifi.

It's unfortunate that BB OS doesn't offer you the option, but as more and more data plans aren't unlimited, it's understandable why it's done.

finally got your hands on a Z30 and realized that's the phone that should have come out in the first place?

Bingo! the Z30 should have been launched as the Z10

Those who follow my posts know that I have been pining for a 5" screen forever as I feel this is the sweet spot for phones. On more than 1 occasion, I nearly defected to Android for this reason.

Apple people will realize how ridiculous their current screen size is when iPhone 6 comes out with the 5" screen.

Extra bonus I'm appreciating is the bigger battery and longer life, and love the stereo sound dual speakers, as I love to play music on my phone when working.

As far as the screen, I don't see what the big deal is with Super AMOLED display is. Apart from the superior contrast of the OLED, I prefer the LCD of the Z10. Felt like I was watching my home LCD tv.

I agree with you totally. Completely different ballgame if that Z30 was released first, with 10.2 out of the gate. But hindsight and all....

Can`t wait to get my Z30 to replace my Z10.

Didn't the Z10 just come out? Yikes. I wouldn't be too happy if I was stuck in a 3 year contract with it.

It's not a replacement any more than a Samsung Note is a replacement for a Galaxy S. They're supposed to appeal to different market segments.

This time last year we were sitting on a past due phone and OS, but had promises of a blazing bright future....and the stock was around $8.

A year later and the Z30 has finally just about caught up with the others with OS10.2...9 months on from the new reformed BB.

Problem is stock is still $8. Company is half the size. And there is nothing new to be revealed come (this) Jan 31st!

There is no...next step for BB.

Yet you are still intrigued enough to revisit this thread frequently enough and post comments.

PURE SPECULATION and not confirmed, but if true, I like where its going....

" Things are getting heated today. Apparently joining Cerberus and the co-founders of BlackBerry is Qualcomm. A quick tweet by CNBC states their sources believe “Qualcomm in talks to join Cerberus and BlackBerry co-founders on possible BlackBerry bid.” – IH

Cerberus for its cash, Laziridis for his knowledge, and Qualcomm of the their tech and know how.

Gary, where are you??? You predicted this Qualcomm thing long ago!!!

Here's something to chew on: Once (if) the rest of the air is let out of the BB balloon, which could be as early as year end, watch how fast Qualcomm comes to the rescue & buys Black Betty. (all IMHO).
And, I hope this is NOT another Bre-ex, Nortel story when the dust settles.

This looks healhty...BB find a strong niche behind the scenes (under the plastic cover) and get out of the handset spotlight. Qualcom had some gastly handsets in the 90s and quickly realized that was not where their strength lay. Meanwhile open up most phones and bam Qualcom components!

That would certainly be getting back to RIM's roots. The BB brand becomes secondary at this point, whether it be tarnished or not, within the industry that can more easily corrected.

Blackberry is dead.
The only hope is to integrate somehow with Google and call it a day.

The iPhone killed RIM. They were too slow and stupid to adjust.

They might leave the consumer side of things, but they're still too intertwined on the corporate side to just disappear overnight.

Definitely won't disappear overnight. They have ZERO debt and billions in cash.

The contrast is nicer, but the OS doesn't make very good use of it. There are a lot of gray backgrounds that don't make good use of the black levels. Also, the reason the Z10 screen looks better is that the PPI is much much higher than on the Z30.

My GF updated her Z10 a week ago to 10.2 and has had nothing but problems. It removed all of the phone numbers from her contacts, and texting is acting really weird/slow. Oh well, I got her a new phone, so this one can go in the garbage.

As far as the buyout options go, I would need to see some serious internal changes to convince me that it's going to last more than a year. The company is still filled with people who are completely oblivious to why they're in the situation they're in. I think the best option for them and any buyers is to remove the two okay chunks (BBM, enterprise), and kill everything else.
