blackberry 10

Coolest feature (aside from instant reply aka toast noifications) are the lock screen preview and USB host mode.

Lotsa things in this update.

Not many useful new things, IMO. The biggest thing is probably the new Android runtime, but developers are still not porting their existing apps over as it is. Priority Inbox is useless for 99% of the population. The quick-response system is okay, but doesn't apply to all message types. The Natural Sound thing on the Z30 is a decent feature, if you're into that sort of thing - I never use the speakers on the phone. The lock screen notification listing is only useful in certain circumstances - most of the time you wont see if because you're swiping up to the homescreen, or swiping up to the lock screen.

Keep in mind they're refocusing on the business market, so you get unmatched battery life, great audio for conference calls, and everything else that makes sense to people for whom the phone is a tool.

I work downtown and more and more I see people with both a BB and iPhone out at the same time. The BB is because they are forced to. The iPhone is what they like. I never see people with BB and Android out at the same time.

In a nutshell,
Bb=work
Iphone=play

I work downtown and I have only seen 2 Z10s in someone's hands in over 6 months! I see tons of old work issued BBs though....alongside those iPhones. The rest of my clients and vendors have already switched to S3s, Note2s or S4s.

I have used my Note2 at the center of 9+ boardroom meetings as a conference device when the comm system was down. In smaller meetings I have been able to use it as a conference device and take minutes using MSOneNote. Guess what...no tippidy tapping to piss off those on the conference call while I type minutes on the phone!

The one thing that pisses me off about the updates is having to connect to a wi-fi to do it. Is there a way around this?

Install BlackBerry Link on your computer, and plug your phone in.

I know. However, this was the planned feature-set well before the realignment of strategy, though. This is what they think consumers want.

Missed my point, why can't you use your own data plan?

I don't own a computer.

to avoid carrier overages that would then be blamed on BB.

Even android says 'connect to wifi for this update' when doing an OS update.

I get that.

However if you have the data available then it'd be nice to say "thanks but no thanks", and just download.

I just don't understand why this is not an option( I'm hopeless when it comes to this stuff tho). Default to wi-fi, but be able to toggle that setting.

We can't even complain to our mutual friend any longer.

Yup, how dare he!

Interesting to see all the BBM requests from the iPhone users. I giggled when I saw a few, just because they bashed BlackBerry so hard.

It's a phone, I will buy mine, you buy yours and life goes on.

Just had a coworker do it on his Z10.

went to Settings ->Software updates->Check for updates

Connected only to Rogers cellular (no wifi). Warned that it would consume large amounts of data and carrier charges may apply and to have the phone plugged in to a power source during the update.
