blackberry 10

They grew too quickly and hired recklessly.

Even with the cuts, they have 7600 employees. Yeah it's bad news and unfortunate for the workers, but that's business. They're not dead...yet.

Was talking to a buddy yesterday that works at Blackberry. He's probably going to lose his job as he works in consumer app development, but he'll be fine. He was saying that after the announcement, no one gives a damn anymore. They're just waiting to get fired, or looking for other opportunities.

It must be an interesting place now.
Hey, can you get this report done for me by Friday.
Sure, I will get it to you for Monday or GFY.

This is a good example of how some dorky morons that don't really know much took a leading company and turned it into the Titanic.

RIM should have partnered with Samsung or Google a long time ago and incorporate the best of both worlds. RIM had something to offer then (security and corporate world) but instead they just took the extra rope.

Hey look, we just released our tablet 1 year after the other major players except we did not give you some basic features found in theirs. doh!

Still waiting on my bb10 software upgrade on my playbook. Right now it serves as an MP4 player in my car to toss around the cabin to silence a kid or play for everyone on a road trip.

Battery life blows though (maybe 2 movies) and really can only be run on 38% brightness to reach equilibrium with it's charging rate when plugged in. Oh and a when fully factory base settings, still takes 3.5 mins to boot up and still pisses off even the least discerning user!

The writing was on the walls long ago!

Some painful lessons to learn, but necessary!

If I was LG, I'd be all over an acquisition.

LG would like nothing more than to topple Samsung. They already make handsets as good as, if not better than Samsung.

They would instantly acquire 60-70+ million subscribers and all their business if they bought RIM.

Samsung has already made inroads to the corporate world with Android Knox, a sector LG would love to get into and LG could easily leapfrog them with BB10 acquisition and all the business associated with it. Companies would be less hesitant knowing a massive corp like LG is standing behind it all.

LG has tonnes of cash, and could easily continue to pump out world class Android handsets and BB10 handsets as needed. They don't need to ditch their Android division, and can keep growing and expanding it.

LG has a way bigger marketing budget than RIM could ever dream of.

I`m an old guy .I got a Z10 for $150 .I does all I need .Most of it is texting, phone and internet use .It does it great .Way better than my iPhone 4.Only app I miss is the CP24 traffic app.The playbook I used on trips for the kids .It lasts for hours and is pretty tough.

The cost of the Apple stuff is ridiculous .

You didnt see the posts about the domestic auto industries a while ago? Its nothing new.

I'm born and raised in Windsor...I lived it. I now reside here and am reliving it. I don't earm my living in the tech industry anymore but I still know a lot of people who lost their jobs this week. More middle class jobs wiped clean from this country all because young people have no concept of buying something your neighbour help build so he can buy your product or service in return.

Not quite the same thing.
If you are going to build junk then don't expect me to spend my money on your junk.
Nobody gave me free money so I am not obligated.

Detroit built ugly cars not to mention death traps for years.
When you are the #1 in car sales then you drop to #2 then #3 at what point do you say, hmm maybe we need to change, nah, let's wait until we hit last.

RIM did the same thing. They had the luxury of time and being last to the market.
They offered products that were not even on par with the 1-2 year old products already on the market.

WTF are they blowing money on a dumb Super Bowl commercial.
Also, wtf was with the other dumb commercials before that with the European DJ etc...
Consumers are not dumb in this sector. You are not selling to 70 year olds.
A quick google comparison or youtube video comparison helps the consumer to decide without leaving their front door.

RIM has no clue who their customers are and no vision on getting new customers.

Hey, I am making a new car. It comes with 2 airbags and I will sell it for the same as the better known car that comes with 6 airbags. Which one are you going to buy?

RIM management killed that company.
They thought Apple was a fad. The KO punch was Google with Android.

Z10 is a dumb name too - it subconsciously implies LAST place.
Stick with what Apple does and what is actually part of the product name for RIM.
BB1 or BB10
BB1K or BB10K (K=keyboard)

Clearly all the money they spent on market research was USELESS.

lol what? you're blaming the younger generation for not buying an antiquated piece of trash and therefore the subsequent implosion of a company that just dropped the ball and never recovered? No one to blame but the ones that call the shots over at RIM... The writing was on the wall for a long time, you cannot expect to survive in a tech industry on just the support of your die-hard loyalists.

LG? C'MON MAN!!
I have to bust out the duct tape everytime someone drops by with an LG flip phone. Seems the masking tape isn't quite up to the job. Just fixed another one 15 minutes ago.
No probs with my Samsung phone, 3yrs in (and other Sammy appliances I've owned worked flawless).
Why the hate for Samsung?

Did you notice how fast Apple sells phones?
They sold more in a weekend than Betty sold in their latest quarter.
Now I know why you're barely clinging on to the "bandwagon". ;-)

Trading just started back up @2pm, interesting to see how the market reacts.

Breaking...

Fairfax Holdings buys BlackBerry

Sent from my Z10 using Tapatalk 2

So last week they announce that they are going to announce a loss for the quarter in a big way. The stock gets hammered and drops from the $10's/$11's into the $8's and then this week they announce a deal at $9 a share. I feel bad for the long term share holders that are still holding this sack of chit company. One thing Blackberry does really well is disappoint and this is just another notch in their belt. What a lowball offer.
