Bike Accidents

This Sunday was a close call. I collected my bike from my in-laws (free heated storage) it as luck would have it, the bike was gleaming and spotless. (Father in law stored it and cleaned it for me). However, he also used a 'back to black' on the tires which almost had me at the first corner out of his lot. Leaning into the first corner the front wheel slid out and I almost went down. Nothing too serious, but the reaction has strained my back and right thigh. I'm lucky that was all as it could/should have been worse.

Lesson learned, never put anything on your tires and make sure you do your own cleaning...

Your father in law hates you doesn't he?

^ Regarding item 1 ... Bit by corner three??

That decreasing-radius downhill left sucks a lot of people into hitting that guardrail. Stay wwaaaaaayyyyy wide on the entrance into that corner and don't turn in the rest of the way until you can see the part that tightens. Staying wide also improves your visibility through the corner and keeps you further from oncoming traffic (that you can't see) in case they go over the center line.
Going from waterdown 1st corner past notredame. Left. Had 4 kids in moms car going up in a 4 wheel slide in our lane. Lucky I was taking it easy. Up is a little safer IMHO. Also a good place to leave unwanted company. Pop out in aldershot and you're in halton.

1. Riding back home from work around 9:30 pm. On the left lane, cager pulls a left turn right front of me: no indications what so ever....Bike low slided. small fracture on my index finger and general pain on the shoulder and right side of body. Luckily I was wearing full gear (CE approved armor etc and riding pants as well) In the end the cops caught them because they were drinking and driving and hit 3 other people after me lol. (bike was written off 06 gixxer 600)

2. Forks of Credit - First time ever didn't know anyone...after the "ice cream" break we were heading back I guess and didn't expect that downhill right away - Was going too fast and fixated on all that sand/gravel on the turn..by the time I realized I was way too high up in gear (4th gear i think) I started to shift down ASAP..but I was still too concentrated with that crap on the ground sand/gravel...lol Low slided again..somehow i hopped off the bike and watched my bike go down the hill a good 10 meters or so...Damage: not even a scratch on myself and only right mirror was scratched on the bike..Frame slider was saved to almost nothing though.

3. You most likely know about it: Going to work, Kite string gets caught on my neck off the hydro poles...yeah wtf right? lol... Damage: I made sure there was none to the bike first haha (got off nicely and made sure the bike was on the stand) next I realized my entire shirt was soaked in blood and the story continues..

4. Riding to work again...as it's almost identical to kcalB..first post: Asian cager about 3 meters away from the while line. Pedestrian presses the crosswalk button, he decided to speed u! and then I guess he changed his mind and SLAMS the brake (Maybe my fault since i was right behind him and I thought he wasn't stopping as he sped up) I break as hard as I can but still touched his bumper and put a small crack on it.
End result: I agreed to pay for the damage (no point arguing a rear end collision) ...and we went to a near by shop. Mechanic there estimated $400 for the bumper repair with warranty. Cager disagrees and threatens me that he will go to reporting center unless I go to his shop. I agreed (figured it might be around the same cost more or less). They both speak Chinese and laugh/make jokes (possibly about how they are gonna rip me up here)..the cost comes at a staggering $1200!! So I said screw that and I went over to the reporting center.
I pretty much wrote down exactly what I typed above and when the broker called me she's like okay "I'm putting him at fault" LOL. So honestly does pay off :)

Misc. stuff :p

5. I'm at work and this random guy who I've never seen in my life..decided to walk by my bike and push it over -.-
I witnessed this whole thing as I work across the street...anyways long story short...got into a fight with the guy and held him down till the cops arrive. I had to suck it up and pay for the damages since the guy was homeless t.t)

6. Lady rear ended my bike white it was parked on the street, but luckily left a note on the bike with her number...It hit the ground pretty hard and a lot of the left side was damaged (broken mirror, small dent on the tank, tail fairing broken, etc). Bike wouldn't start..somehow it fell on the clutch lever and messed up the gear box..couldn't even shift up anymore. So that ended up as a write off (07 gixxer)...bought it back from the insurance to fix it up myself but it was a lot more work then I anticipated so I sold it off dirt cheap. I did make about $1000 more then what I payed for it :p

Anyways all of that was on the 06/07 Gixxer. So far nothing on my 09 CBR yet :) although it's only the 2nd season on it.

Kite string? Wtf? Please expand? That's some freaky **** dude.

And all of these hit/run + parking whack overs are the reason why I refuse to commute downtown with my bike...unless I buy a 250 or something lol

I believe that was Warden/St Clair. I remember hearing that on the news, I ride there all the time & it could've been me

Nope, most likely it's not just one person...rather people from that whole area.. but yeah scary **** but it's old news and we should forget about it. I like to read other peoples experience :)

Probably the most frightening one was when trolling(no pun intended) thru a parking lot. Some dude just pounded his car into reverse and nail the gas. That was too close for comfort.

First long trip me and wife ever took together we were heading down highway 6 to the bruce with a farm truck pulling a wagon of Hay coming in the opposite direction he was partially on the hard shoulder to allow people to pass. But some yahoo in a souped up truck didn't want to wait till it was safe to pass pulled out right in front of us had to swerve to avoid the prick and he had the audacity to honk at us...and there wasn't anyone behind me don't know why he was in such a rush.

You were lucky!! Similar thing happened to me.. Asian woman stopped 2 car lengths halfway into an intersection on a Yellow that turned red.. I rode into the back while braking hard.. figured it would be written up as my fault so went to collision centre. (My bike was written off.) Only good thing was a I got fair value I suppose for the bike and avoided a ticket.

...mini van crashed into us on an abandoned gas station!

Only once on the street.About 33 years ago in Brampton on my way to work on a dual sport XL250 Honda. It was too hot to wear my bellstaff jacket (DUH!),so i bungied it on top of the rear fender. The bungie broke in the middle of a left turn and went into the rear sprocket locking the rear wheel.Bent swingarm, clutch lever broken and a bunch of other stuff.really nasty raspberries on my left hip, shoulder and forearm.Lesson learned.Buy tougher bungies and never use it for your jacket.

It was a very long ride home back to Milton with the headlite aimed at the moon (3-11 shift) wanting to turn left with a bent swingarm.

Now THAT has every ATGATT warrior laughing his head off....the irony the irony

nasty sounding tho...

You guys aren't still friends are you?

Thats the first thing everyone asks whenever i tell that story.

We're more like acquaintances now, kinda hard to remain friends with someone who's a piece of ******.
Only reason he paid up was because i told him i'd take his *** to court.

Re: kite string, I remember a couple different cases a few years ago:

Warden and St. Clair

Bayview Extension south of Rosedale Valley Rd.

Now that's f****d up.

"nrickeymouse" has a Youtube channel on a decreasing radius turn on Mulholland drive in LA. He just sets up a camera on weekend and sees 4-5 guys fall. Some very expensive high powered bikes owned by people who should not be riding.
In Britain, a study released last week showed that >40% of bike crashes were rider "loss of control". 20% is from right turns (our left turns). 10% from U-turning cars. Loud pipes won't save any of that.
Keeping off roads friday night to sunday morning will drop your chances of getting killed in a huge way. 50% of all fatalities happen at night due to alcohol.
