Best sport touring bikes for long distance

Surprised to learn the 20k FJR doesnt have a quickshifter, or an IMU for that matter

How much ground clearance does one need for mainly street touring? One can say hardside luggage interferes with the width and aerodynamics. Having Center stands on the CBX and T7, off-road, none gave any ground clearance issues let alone on the road

Depending on the bike, sometimes it's the first thing that touches down when you're leaned over.

On my old GS500, I'd scrape the centerstand before the peg feelers. :(

Also, on a dual sport bike, the stand will bounce down off the springs on gnarly-enough terrain, which can give you an unpleasant surprise. More aggressive riders end up zip-tying their center stands up when going off-road.

When my bike was lowered, I would scrape the centre stand. Now that it's raised above stock, it never touches, but the peg feelers occasionally do.

The FJR, like the Super Tenere, is on its way out and I think the 2021 is the last year it's going to be available, so no money being spent adding features on a bike to be removed from Yamaha's lineup.

Sad. Another victim of Euro 5 regulations.

Like the KLR, Yamaha will come out with something similar soon. They won't leave a niche that large empty for very long.

Interesting
It seems to me there are 3 possible reasons why yamaha would do this:
1. Poor sales
2. Euro 5
3. Lack of good competition in the sport touring segment

this would explains why they have a quickshifter and an IMU on a 10k base model mt09 ffs but leave it out of a 20k bike...

There's an "A" model (clutchless) fjr available for whatever reason.

It is due to Euro 5

While I can't recommend anything from personal experience that meets your criteria, I have my eye on a Super Duke GT in the future. The feature list screams do everything on pavement fast and in comfort.

If they had offered a 790 Duke GT when I bought mine, that would have been the option instead.

That's 2.5 year old news. Fjr was supposed to be done production in '19, then '20 was the final year. Then the '21 appears.
maybe they will do like honda and stop selling in europe and keep pushing the same old model in NA for a few more years

They did update the KLR, all new fo 2022

Is the new V-strom of the table?
