Best dual sport or something along those lines?

Nope

Aaaaaand nope.

Good luck finding one in decent shape with a blue plate. For the prices guys want for them you can grab a KTM 525/530 and actually have KTM performance. It will also be factory street legal.

I was thinking the same.

Wr is considerably more maintenance. (Look at the oil capacity), and to convert it is going to cost you maybe 2k more.

If not the drz i'd get a xr650r that has already been converted. (none on kijiji are priced reasonable atm.)

That is a great bike low maintenance almost the same power as the 400 but with a 6 instead of 5 speed and fuel injected. Would be my pick between the 2.

ya and they dont seem to pop up that often... but he his pretty firm on the price.

When guys are asking $3200-$4000 for an 01-05 drz400, that wr250 isn't that far off the mark. I'd still try to bring him down around 4.

Most of the DRZ prices are out to lunch as well. I guess bikes don't depreciate in the GTA.

I agree the prices are out to lunch. But dual sports are more rare than other bikes so guys seem to think they can ask what they want!

Yeah, guys seem to think those things are made of gold around here. The thing is 6 years old and had an MSRP of $8500. Price should be under 4 on those by now. If I were in the market for one I'd be looking south of the border.

I offered him 3700 cash and im dead serious cuz i just sold my bike, but he wants no lower then 4200. I am not prepared to pay that for that bike, I will wait to see what else pops up.

If by almost you mean the 400 has like 35-40% more power then yes, they are "almost" the same power.

33 vs 27 not that much different and the extra gear takes away most of the advantage the drz would have.

I thought you were trying to compare to the wr400.

6 hp is still a lot (over 20% more) which adds up.

Suspenders are probably better on the wr though

No it doesn't. 6 hp might not be much on a 100hp bike but you can certainly feel it on a 30hp one.

The only problem with 5 speeds is you either get a little taller first gear or lower 5th. On a bike that ventures off road you usually opt for the lower gear. Neither of these bikes has enough power to pull to redline in top gear anyway. So all the 6th is gaining you is a bit lower Rev on the highway which is is kind of useless on this style of bike.

For reference, I picked up a mint WR250X this summer with around 6000km for 4000. When I was looking I didn't see anything under 4000.

I bought it to play around on and also to ride a bit with my son, once he up is up to speed on his PW50.....pretty similar to your situation I believe.

thats a good deal ya.... see thats a fair price and i would pay that especially with 6000k. How do you like it anyways? do u do alot of street?

Ya well i think exactly the same... my son just got a ktm 50 and my other son is getting a 100 so i wanna fo trail riding but be able to ride it to work (30k along hwy 7)

I know your limit is around $4k, but for what people are asking used you might consider new... I just saw a 1995 DRZ with mountain dew graphics come up for $3500... a 9 year old bike that you don't know how it was treated: http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-veh...Suzuki-DR-Z400-blue-plated-W0QQAdIdZ563961356

Meanwhile,
Brampton Powersports has a 2013 DRZ400 for $5999 (MSRP is $7099 or something): http://www.autotrader.ca/a/Suzuki/D...91608123/?ms=motorcycles_atvs&showcpo=ShowCPO

Ready Honda Mississauga has a DR650, 2012, that you can probably get for a good price as it is getting old now: http://www.autotrader.ca/a/Suzuki/D...95702133/?ms=motorcycles_atvs&showcpo=ShowCPO

I had the same issue when I bought my Vstrom... used prices were out of line. For a thousand or two more than what was being asked 2nd hand I got a bike that hadn't been eff'd with and a warranty (not that I needed to use it).

I haven't put a lot of time on it yet, but it seems like it should suit my needs. It is not super fast, but is pretty fun on the back roads. I had it on the highway a few times and it did quite well for a 250, engine is really smooth for a single. It wanders a bit at higher speeds, but nothing major. I haven't done much in the dirt yet as it has full 17" street tires, I am either going to get a dual sport 17" tires or get a second set of off-road rims/tires (pretty expensive) to swap on for the trails.

In the end it is a pretty cool little bike with low maintenance and nice features like fuel injection, aluminum frame and 6 speed (good for street). It is also great on insurance because it is a small cc bike....

If you want to go for ride this summer...just PM me. Your in Ajax, right?

ya thats pretty much what i have read....and im fine with that. hopefully something will pop up, because i hate waiting lol. I wanna buy now!!! lol.
definately would go for a ride with ya when i get something. like I said....hopefully soon!

Once you try DRZ400SM, you'd never buy WR250X (which is exactly what I did 3 years ago) .... Yami is a nice bike, if you never go on a hwy and stay under 100km/h .... anything above, is just a drag because that's not what the bike is meant for. The extra 150cc on the Suzi makes a huge difference on paved surface. It's not just the power, but torque as well. Aftermarket is huge on DRZ, non-existent on WR ... think about that too.

I sold my DRZ 400SM 09 with 18K a year ago for 3750 .... guy came all the way from Ottawa, because the price and the fact it was basically stock was what he was looking for. There's ton of them out there with mods done the wrong way and high prices .... I sold for 3750 because that's what I would pay if I was buying. Quick sale with days of posting ... be patient.

Thanks man, thats some good insight and good enough to steer me clear of the wr. I am definately looking for a good DRZ, but like i said, just high prices right now, but like anything somebody reasonable will be selling one.

Thanks again man!
