Bait and Switch?

Saw a bike on Kijiji that I’m interested in it’s an improvement over the ape that I’ve got now. Pics on Kijiji show the race wheels which are crazy expensive from af1 in California. Emailed them and find out the bike comes with the regular wheels not the nice ones. Asked if that changed price and first told no but later they emailed me and said they’d knock $1200 off the price. I thought price was a little high when it was coming with the the expensive wheels but now I think it’s def too much and a little sneaky.

Its a 2016 tuono rr. He traded it in for a 2017. He asked Two Wheel if he could swap over his forged wheels... they said no...

Seems overpriced to me.

I've got a 2017 tuono rr. Love it, but have been doing a lot of offroading this season.

Its been well treated. Never down. Proper mods, and I'd sell it for cheaper than that 2016...

Just sayin'

Thanks for the info. I was told the bike was serviced there and it just had the big 20k service done but there’s no proof only the word of a sales guy. Would be really nice to talk to the old owner to see if the service was actually done and if he knows what happened to the nice wheels. Its got a arrow pipe on it and the sales guy said it’s got the race flash but still it seems to be a bit expensive. I wonder what he got for trade in value on it?

If the advertised price is good for you, bring in the ad -- they will sell it to you as equipped in the pic. If they don't, cough into you hand making the sound "OMVIC".

With the race flash and the arrow pipe if this bike still had the nice wheels on it I would buy it at or very close to their asking price. I’m going to email the sales guy again and see what they can do with the price since they put the normal rims on. It would be nice if I could talk to the previous owner to.

We'll see if the P.O. posts up.

The '17+ is a better bike. Thats why he traded in his '16.

17+ has the tft dash.
Autoblip downshifter.
Better fueling (major complaint on the '16-)

I flashed the race map to his current bike ,(as well as my own, and two other Tuonos).

If you really want those rims, keep your eyes peeled on the apriliaforum.com classifieds, forged wheels come up every so often. There's a set of black ones up now for $1000 USD, though not mint.

Yep, that’s my old one...lol!
I traded it in for my ‘17 in May and it had a little under 20,000km. It took about a month before I saw them advertise it and in that time it racked up a few hundred kms.
I was after them from the beginning to swap the forged wheels with my stock ones and I finally worked out a deal with them a few weeks ago. They did the swap when I got the brake pad recall done, so now my current ride has those sweet sweet wheels!
As for service, I never had it serviced there. The 20k service was completed though, but it was done at Apex in Cambridge, partly because they’re closer to me but mostly because I don’t really like Two Wheels service dept.
I don’t want to post publicly what I got for trade in value on the ‘16, but taking into account what they gave me and also what I paid for the forged wheels, they’ve got a lot of room to move on their price!
For reference, I bought that ‘16 from Tri-City Cycle in the summer of 2018 for a little under $11k and it came with the forged wheels and race ecu, the only thing I added was the Arrow pipe.
Also, pretty much the only reason I made the change from a ‘16 to a ‘17 was there is rumours on Tuono forums that the ‘16s have weak valve springs that tend to break around the 20k km mark, which leaves you with a paperweight for a motor. I didn’t want that to happen so I made the change.
To the op, I’ll pm you with some more details if you like.

Did the OP just cleanly miss Matt's offer of a 2017 for less than that 2016? Arrow pipe and a flash cant be that big a deal can it?

That gets even more interesting now that we know they don't have the wheels. Not sure of the timeframe between an ad and when they are allowed to change the vehicle (and if the ad is current, they are completely cooked). Walk in with a cheque for the bike as shown and they will need to either buy the forged wheels and put them on or face the wrath of OMVIC.

I would buy Matt's instead but if the fancy wheels are really important to you, the other way gives the the chance to get them.

And mine has the race map, and a hindle carbon fibre pipe.
Bunch if other goodies that could be negotiable. Ohlins shock. Hepco becker c bow racks. Sw-motech tank-ring tankbag. Powerbronze windscreen.
Did the big 20,000k valve service last winter (did it early at 16,000k).

He could buy mine for less than that 2016 and buy a set of forged wheels down the line.

You can add wheels. You can't add the dash, blipper, etc. Brakes and TC are better on the '17, too.

I saw his message but didn’t know it was an offer to sell. I’ve only ever dealt with dealers so doing a private sale for me would be something new and I’m not sure if I would feel comfortable doing it. But this dealer doesn’t make me to comfortable so I don’t know anymore.

Matt's been around here a long time. I've never met him, but nothing he has ever posted would make me concerned. I would strongly consider his offer. Buying bikes privately also provides an opportunity for "tax efficiency" which can save you a lot of money if you are comfortable with it.

I don’t know Matt outside of this site and I’d feel fairly comfortable buying from him, same goes for the majority of the regulars here.
