If this is true then I would conclude that the quality of metallurgy in these part must be pretty poor. Diesels are low reving and if anything wears out prematurely then they must be crap.
I think that's in regards to using regular gas motor oil which has reduced quantities of 2 (iirc) additives which are harmful to cat converters. The cams and lifter or rocker interface in modern gas engines can tolerate that. Some vintage race cars with flat tappets use diesel oil for that reason. Read that on line couple years ago. I use diesel oil in the bikes.
