anyone like riding solo?

i remember when i first got my bike, i always wanted to ride with other people. i've been on a few group rides and they were pretty fun (more so because it was my first year) and seeing like 10 + bikes riding together made me almost cream my pants :D

but now i prefer riding by myself since i have a weird (but ?normal) paranoia of someone clipping me from behind OR having someone infront of me wipe out and then i get taken out.

although if i'm to ride in a group i ALWAYS keep about a 10-20 car length distance from another person in case if one of us were to go down.

lol dude, that's not group riding anymore.

and in all seriousness, if you were 2 seconds behind the other riders, you would still have time to stop and/or manoeuver. 20 lengths? Why bother?

i dont really like group rides that much

not because im anti-social but because i get nervous staying so close to a biker

personally i think it lowers your overall maneuverability and is more riskier if you ride in groups (ya you get noticed more but i still get sketchy driving so close to others)

anyone else feel this way? i dont mind twoing up (two upping?) but riding in big groups (over 3 people) is a bit tedious

I like riding alone, with groups I tend to speed a little more. I would rather cruise at my own pace as well.

I ride solo all night long.............oh and I also like riding solo on the bike.

Who knew the twist of the wrist could prove to be so enjoyable.

I usually ride solo, but occasionally with one or two others. I find when I ride with others, I end up focusing on the rider in front or keep checking my mirrors for the one behind. This takes away from enjoying the scenery. Multi day trips you end up following some else's schedule. Did a cross Canada trip solo, loved the solitude, enjoyed the scenery, no where to be and all the time to get there.

if all you do is ride solo, unless you're a veteran rider good luck finding all the roads worth riding on....

lol this is why I love riding with more experienced riders:D I like riding solo too though...very soothing.

I love doing solo's and riding in groups. I really enjoy socializing and I think that's the best aspect of a good group ride. I'm not into riding with riders that have the intention of "showing off" their skill set. So far I've been lucky with the group of people I ride with. They all watch out for each other. We always hang back and wait for each other so the group stays together. That being said I find solo rides extremely relaxing as well especially when I want sometime to myself to just unwind.

In the end to each his own :)

Hey Macdog do you go trail riding? what kind of bike do you have? Mississauga is 1/2 hour away from where I live in Maple, may be I join you on one of your 2 A.M rides.

I also prefer riding solo as I feel more comfortable and enjoy not having to worry about anyone else. However, the head turning and company when I'm in a group is also a +1. Guess both have their benefits IMO

If you had a Scala system maybe but the late night rides are whimsy not planned.
Hit The Shed at the Forks - closer to you - lots of hookups for riding there and with these long evenings there are lots of late rides that form up.

Prefer riding solo - I go where I want, when I want. Meet ups somewhere are better IMO - go grab a bite or coffee somewhere in common, meet other riders, shoot the breeze for a while and buzz off when you feel like it.

I like riding solo but doesnt bother me to go for a group ride every once in a while. Nice to meet fellow bikers.

Riding is therapy. It's usually done on my own. Don't mind riding with others. Just doesn't happen very often.

I'm in Hamilton. For those who prefer solo riding (especially at night), can you recommend any routes, please? The way things are going, it appears that most of my riding will have to take place in the evenings or early Saturday/Sunday morning.

I do about 98% solo riding, but then I use my bike mainly for transportation, point a to point b. I love being out in the country and being the only vehicle on the road! Other bikes can make me nervous, especially if the riders are not disciplined (only bicycles are worse!), it can be worse than cars. On an organized tour last year I found that with about 10 bikes, we settled into a pecking order based on riding experience and skill, with an older rider sweeping the rear. That was okay. When the two groups merged together we had a couple on a bike in front of us who were all over the road, swapping sides of the lane, speeding up and slowing down, it drove the experienced riders crazy.

The right group can be great, the wrong groups can be nerve-racking and stressful.

I've been on in group rides that were good and bad. These days I like to do a lot of solo riding.
