anyone hired a personal trainer before?

I didn't even know that was possible lol
Some guy posted about his brother being on anxiety medications and him being worried about him. I warned him about withdrawal from those.

Bodybuilding.com is a messed up place. Whenever I spend a few minutes there, I feel myself getting dumber and dumber by the post.

Unbelievable just how much blatant racism, anti-semitism, homophobia, misogyny, etc. goes on there and no one bats an eye.

Young 20 somethings hanging around there, wouldn't be surprised

I think you're taking it way too seriously, everything is basically a huge inside joke on there, if you're in on it and not take it too seriously, then it's in fact hilarious. The board regularly brings me to the brink of tears from laughing so hard which is why I keep going back (I've got over 9K posts on there). The problem is that I sometimes forget to readjust my posting style when I switch back to GTAM and get called an *******, insensitive, etc.

Invite rutakin there, it'd be like family

Maybe I'm just too PC for that crowd. Some things are funny, some things said on there are genuinely disturbing.

I have a personal trainer twice a week but not at a commercial gym. It's at a martial arts place and I'm pretty happy with the routine. I ask the guy to give me a routine every few weeks to make me puke and the rest to mix it up a bit he ignores any whining I do and that works for me. I need the motivation and for me this works. I tried goodlife etc but that ended up being a waste of time. I'm not ripped but have lost weight and gotten a lot stronger. I've gained a lot more flexibility and lower back pain has really reduced and ankle mobility from a bad injury has more or less gone. I'd be in way better shape if I had any kind of real control over willpower when it comes to food and booze though.

Why don't you send Sonny a pic of you, I'm sure he can degrade & belittle you so you will be motivated

Holy mother of God.

Broke down and called about a 2 month membership at LA. I won't go once the weather clears, have way too much booked and have no real interest in gyms. I was interested in a couple of months...cheapest would have been about 350. For two months! Holy ****. I figured maybe 75/m, knowing I'd get dinged for the short span.

They tried to sell me on a no contract, which is funny as I indicated straight up I was only interested in a couple months.

$199 registration fee. $55-$65 dollars a month for use of facilities. Add tax and now at $350.

Even $100/m would have been steep but not insane.
This is close to double that. Ridiculous.

I think Anytime fitness has better rates for short term. Or those $10 month gyms opening up

Yes, but no pool or courts. I'd think about the community centre membership but they are always full of children and dirty. Just about brained myself from a salty floor in December playing squash with a friend. Every single time we went it was the same. You get what you pay for I suppose but I'm flabbergasted that $200 can't get you a two month membership.

Plus those places never seem to have any heat. Brrr.

These are the rates for gym membership!? I thought LA was cheaper than Goodlife (which is around $60/month). LA tends to hover around the $35/month rate, only because of that registration fee. But they're trying hose you with that monthly rate.

I thought about getting a personal trainer but in all honesty I don't think it's worth the money. Looking around at them in some gyms there's a few guys who I think I'm in better shape than them, and the guys that are training people at the gym I'm at now don't look like they can move their arms because of the huge amount of bulk they've got!

I think with some proper research and trial and error you can get your own routine down pretty well and get the results you need.

Right now still looking at getting muscle definition and then will work on bulking up. Unfortunately the killer in my routine is always the same thing...diet...DIET....DIET! Being in my mid-30s I can't count on the metabolism anymore to kill off the gut but at least I'm making slow progress and cutting my intake, as well as making it more of a healthy choice. But the diet is the definite killer in my goals :(

Did you tell them straight up to go F themselves cause you won't pay that much? Those initiation fees are usually BS. 95% of people never pay that, they'll be like "Let me talk to my manager" and the manger will be like "I will wave the fee in your case cause I'm such a nice guy" or at least lower it to like 50% of the listed price....which is again, BS cause they say this to everybody, classic sales tactic. Even than though you should be able to find a gym that will do something like $60/monthly at most. MAYBE $75/month like you said. Where about do you live?

If it helps any because I'm not at a commercial gym the only fees I pay are for the personal trainer, no gym membership or anything and I use the facilities of the martial arts place and can go on the circuit training sessions free at the weekends too. Mom and pop operations are a lot better than the Goodlifes of this world in my opinion. Freeweights is where it's at and you don't need fancy facilities for that. The trainer is worth the money as he teaches proper form and posture and continually corrects me. Look around on Kijiji and don't be afraid to ask for references.

I would try to show up in person. They probably won't let you haggle on the phone but if you show up in person with a credit card in hand they'll sing a different tune. It's at least worth a shot.
