anyone hired a personal trainer before?

Personal trainers are a waste of money, imo. Majority of the trainers i've seen in these commercial gyms, they have absolutely no clue what they're doing. Makes me cringe when I find out how much people pay per session.

Better to do some research and try the programs yourself. There's a crap load of resources on the internet! Man, when I first started, there were no Youtube videos/ how-to's on lifting!

Stopped into an LA fitness club this am, just to see some prices. No brochures, wouldn't even give me a simple price unless I spoke to a sales associate....

It's all a scam imo. I'm a running room member for a few years now and love how simple they keep it. $60-70 for a 10 week program if you want to attend the clinic nights. Free if you just wanna run with them.

Friend of mine booked a trainer from a local gym. 18 months later she's down 80lbs and feels amazing. Gym owner sends out motivational texts. Nutritionist came in and cleaned iut the pantry. Trainer works with her 3-4 days a week. Not cheap, though.

My sis teaches spinning at LA, and so does a girl I went on a date with this week. No idea about their prices though. EVERY gym always tries to reel you in and get you to sign on the dotted line. That's how they make their money.

hi so... im about 6 ft tall 170 lbs. athletic but not really that muscular. i thought about joining a gym like goodlife to get more jacked up but... i worry that i won't have the motivation by myself to workout regularly.

anyone hired a personal training before? and for how long and how much $ it cost you? did you get good results? i wanna be lean and jacked like a male model.

lol. thanks!

If u want someone to motivate you then its not for you, you should motivate yourself and set a goal. It takes discipline both in the gym and kitchen.

I have been working out for 7 years now and everyday feels like an achievement. Do your own research and change things a bit like weights one day cardio on others and rest on third day etc. None of the trainers in my gym are fit (goodlife) and I will never take training from them.

Remember you carve your abs in the gym but u make then in the kitchen.

Goodlife trainers don't have a clue about good nutrition, and aren't allowed to talk about it, either. Which means that most people who are looking to get into shape will just put on more weight. At least some of it might be muscle, if they weren't working out before.

There is a personal trainer that brings three women with her in the mornings to the Waterloo arena where i do my morning walks. You never see the same women more than a week. She must make really good money. The mornings are getting quieter now that those with new years resolutions have found their couches and chips again.

Many years ago I worked out at Premier Gym. To which we all know that went under because of very, very shady business.
The trainers there spent more time chatting up the women, either the ones they where training, so called.
Big upper bodies and stupid looking spindle legs.
Rip off prices and they knew next to nothing. Lugheads.
Had a friend that worked out there, she was drop dead gorgeous.
They hired her as a sales associate. Before you know it she was an Instructor.
I guess the rest speaks for itself.
Rip off. Phoney.

Premier... owned by the mob. :)

I have a friend who worked there & the things he told me made my jaw dropped. He did mentioned about trainers sleeping with clients & each other. There was alot of shady practices & it was featured in a news documentary a while back. Very shady...

Yes, I saw the documentary. Only part of the story. I personally knew "John the Car Dealer" as he was known.
He asked me if he could date? my Daughter. I laughed as she was my Gf.
I first worked out there when it opened as something else till it was taken over. I think that was 1985.
Then I moved to the Dunwin centre as the Mississauga gym was getting too busy.
No surprise when it closed.
One of the worst sites I saw was when a "so called" Instructor was with a client and she was eating at the same time out of a bowl. Chinese, complete with slurping sound.
Real personal trainers have gone through a course and have a strong understanding of Anatomy and Physiology of the human body. Nutrition.
They work hard to be fully qualified. not a 2 week course. I think it is 2 years. then they get a degree to which they can proudly hang. Then comes the experience.
To which they also have to understand the clients needs and wants.
I have lots of stories of the fun times I had at both gyms. Made some really good friends.

I work with a team. I wasn't happy with how I was living and issues I was having so I found a medical place that was covered under benefits. I work out with them 2 days a week and do the gym thing by myself based on their programming the other 3 days. Below is a blurb I through up on my FB. They summed up up quite well when i started. It took me 32 years to get to where I was it takes years to reverse those results.

To anyone who hasn't known or seen me in the last 12 months I have been actively trying to improve my overall health through diet, exercise and lifestyle. I was never over weight but I have managed to loose 10-15 lbs but more importantly have increased my range of movement and flexibility by over 75%. Working with a Physiotherapist, Chiropractor, Doctor, Massage Therapist and Trainer/Dietician was the safe and proper way to obtain some long term results and better my overall physical condition. Personally I cant see it being done properly any other way.

I worked out at Premier too for a few years. Dixie-Dundas location. Yeah, some of the trainers were shady, and all the female trainers were young, hot girls that dudes would pretty much pay to "train" them.....just so they could hang out with them. Not gonna lie though, I tried going out with one of them. Some of the male trainers were clearly on juice also and one guy was pretty much trying to bang anything that moves, including my sis (which he failed), while he had a girlfriend at the time (who also went to that gym). One of the girls working the front had a thing for me and and it was kind of funny. So basically, drama galore.......there WAS some cool people that went to that gym though and it was kind of entertaining seeing things unfold.

PS: Looks like I'm banned from Bodybuilding.com LMAO

Forget personal trainers. I dropped from 200 pounds to 130 pounds in grade 12: all you need is some motivation.

I'm currently undergoing a rapid transformation due to atrophy on the left side of my body after fracturing my left clavicle. The progress I've made since the doctor gave me the green light is surprising even to me.

Just do your own research and figure out what makes your body tick. Part of the fun in working out is progression, hitting "walls" and overcoming those barriers.
