Anyone here a cyclist?

It may be cheaper to just buy a dedicated better bike. Not with COVID pricing...but one day.

Don’t forget the used market , even with covid pricing there is always someone with too many bikes and too much money making space for another bike . Take your time but I think there is still some value floating around

True. Maybe used bike prices will start to come down to earth with time.

For the most part used bikes are just as crazy as new, actually more. Most sellers figure their price by other listings... There is the odd deal by someone that "just wants it gone" but they are snapped up by people that continuously troll for used bikes (as a side hustle or business) in minutes. The farther you get from Toronto the longer the deals may last as a listing but you need to either be out there or get their in short order to get them. For used bikes two to three times pre-COVID used bike prices are still the norm but IMO peak is a bit behind us.

I do think in the next few years (maybe sooner) as many of these start to collect dust some deals will be had. As usual fall is the best time....

I converted my cheap road bike.. you just need to be able to adapt the cabling appropriately and also the brakes you currently have may not fit... i used a non-conventional setup (no hoods for brakes, i have them mounted up front) for my cheaper bike... I almost had it but couldnt get the braking wiring done properly because i didnt know what i was doing, so the bike shop was more than happy to do it when i sent it in for a tuneup (ill come back to post a pic of it in a few minutes)

I'm used to my road bike, so its more comfortable for me. And its faster because im more "crouched"
That’s a neat setup but not for everyone. Can’t get on the brakes quickly unless you’re on the tops, and for the comfort factor most people ride the hoods. And you’ve got no hoods!

Like others have said, converting to drip bars can get expensive quickly. And with parts still in short supply will be tough to find deals. Even on the used market a set of brifters alone is several hundred.

Yeah it worked out for my bike. The flar bar /stem were too high up for me. This puts me in a better position.

Those were take offs from another bike (he had upgraded to a better set of drop bars) so I got them for dirt cheap. Otherwise I would've passed.

Properly prepped bike...same as on a MC...me thinks....mostly. ... just have to have a very looong slow down run off before applying bicycle brakes.

How is being towed a big deal?????
2 things. For it to be a bicycle record, it has to be pedaled. Not attached to anything (towing up to a point where your speed catches up to your gearing is allowed - then you have to be free and pedaling). And it's well short of the actual bicycle record of 183.9 set by Denise Mueller-Korenek.
