Anybody with a Sport-Touring Motorcycle that Tours?

I'm a chronic overpacker.

For me, getting rid of jeans is key to making space. I bought some zip off pants from Tilley that pack really small, and that saved a lot of room.

There is a web site called www.onebag.com that has a lot of good useful tips for packing and what to bring.

My definition of a sport tourer is pretty simple. If its a sport bike, and you tour on it, then its a spot tourer. I would not classify the Triumph Tiger, V-Strom, GS, or anything else in that class as sport tourer. There is a great site devoted to sport touring www.sport-touring.net a very active community. I would call www.sport-touring.net the advrider.com for sport tourers.

You clearly haven't experienced a Tiger or V-Strom. They most certainly are sport-tourers. In fact, they have their own recognized class: "adventure sport tourers".

The Tiger, especially the 2007+ Tiger, can give many sportbikes a run for the money!

Always loved the Tiger, but I still wouldnt classify it as a "sport" bike, no matter how quick it is. Yellow Wolf at Deals Gap would give 95% of the people here on super sports a run for there money, if not completely wipe them out, on a Goldwing. Define how you want, but I look at it like the classic sport bike. Thats just me though, I am not claiming gospel... though I am right without a doubt :D

That looks like a neat setup. Bet you it turns a lot of heads.

When I ride with the trailer, I get more attetion than a naked porn star in a convertible Ferrari.

Thong man (Mr. Port Dover) might actually have some 'PR' competition with that set-up you got:)

How did you know I owned a convertible Ferrari? ;)

I conceded, happily, and have no intention of trying to rival his notoriety

That's a sweet looking VFR. The 01's are my favouruite... I like that set-up too - the soft saddlebags and top bag sitting on the passenger seat.
What kind of soft luggage is that and any links or details to it?

Actually I am pretty excited because I have just bought a hard bag setup for my bike, a Sw Motech rack, detachable, with 2 Givi hardbags. I will post pics when I get it.

I have to ride down to Ohio and the guy I am buying it from is going to install it for me and I will just ride home all good to go.

Mines the blue black one.

Having the hardbags is awesome. I've never stopped for rain* and I'm totally confident with them.

*OK, I stopped once in Nebraska - but it was because we seriously thought there might be tornado activity!

I really like the SW-Motech quick release side racks. I have Givi E21 and E41 side cases but really don't like having side cases on most of the time. When you take off the racks what is left behind is essentially invisible.

Yep, the bags that will come with the rack ar E21. I can\t believe how excited I am about getting them! I must be having unconcious thoughts of endless times fiddling with soft bags, bungees, straps, sticky protector stuff, and to have the bags end up sitting on the pipes anyways.

And has anyone had a rain protector that actually survive a trip? You know, doesn't blow off within 2 kms of you putting it over your bag? Or better yet, melt on your pipes,THEN blow away????

Grrr....

I had an older Kawi Concours 1000cc. Top heavy but cast iron solid. Not flickable but a decent small tourer that didnt look like a Harley or Goldwing. Switched to a Goldwing.
