This is a Scotch Whisky thread, scotch comes from Scotland.
Zły kraj.
BIL was letting me sample some of that when we were in AZ. To be honest though it's lost on me. One shot of whisky/bourbon/scotch tastes pretty much the same as the next. I'm not one for sipping. Pour me shot, I'll toast your health and boom it's gone.Good timing for thread revival….sampling this deliciousness today.

Basil Hayden it $7 off until Nov 4. That is an unusually large discount for LCBO.

A bit of spirit snobbery....Some of the Japanese whiskies are "scotch equivalents"
But i gotta agree that bourbon is a whole other thing in itself.
But i dont discriminate and drink them all lol
Forty Creeks Double Barrel is my new recent favourite cheap whiskey.Just finished a bottle of 15 yo Glenfiddich and it was good. However, my present go to is a bourbon. Elijah Craig.
I alternate between them all really. Irish Whiskey, Bushmills, Jameson Stout etc.
Bourbon, B&H, Breckenridge, Maker’s Mark.
Scotch, my go to typically is Glenmorangie and pretty much any starting with “Glen”. Lol. Kinda stick with the lower price points of Highland Park and avoid the fancy cask stuff like carribean cask etc. not that I would turn my nose up at it when offered. Just won’t spend my money to add it to the liquor cabinet.
Maybe it’s getting old and pallet change? I don’t shoot or chug much any more. Takes me longer to sip a whisky or scotch than most drink a beer.
For Canada, I support the local fella down the road, Forty Creek. I have a few others like NL‘s Signal Hill or the standard Crown with Ginger or coke for the ahem…..ladies that mix their booze with pop. Lol
There are very few spirits I don’t enjoy But, I appreciate middle of the road pricing and decent quality. Tequila, Rhum, Gin and Vodka are all nice. I generally mix Vodka with a flavour Sparking water of sorts. The rest, I drink neat or maybe with some ice.
Rum was a poor man’s booze , made from the tailings of sugar production, dirt cheap to make , pretty short aging process ( in colonial America it was weeks) . Distilleries were everywhere.
Now they sell the empty barrels to the fancy pants Scotch distillers, to create a unique flavour so you can stand out from the other 150 makers .
It fascinates me .

Bourbon barrels are only used once to make Bourbon, then they are sold to Scotch, Irish and Canadian whiskee makers. And then the whiskey/bourbon distillers sell their used barrels to breweries who age stouts in them.
