Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

MX, yes, you have to have proof of having purchased a *new* EV (used is not eligible) to get the rebates.

I would be very careful about having any receipts for hardware/installs dated before the actual car purchase as well – not sure if they would honor that either. Could be wrong.

So are owners of used Volts eligible for the rebate on chargers? I didn't see that req on the govt site but may have missed is somewhere.

i was lucky to be able to install a 40A line from the panel to the garage before we closed up the walls so now just need to get that charger working and all set.

ive also seen conversion of Gen1 EVSE to a 220V capable unit with a simple conversion but that's dicey for me as well. Lot of DIY conversions online. If this charger doesn't work I'm getting the GM one from the US that supports 110/220V feed.
 
Congrats on the car HD.

In your situation I would get a 40 amp circuit installed - 32a charging (which requires a 40a circuit) seems to be the next most common standard charging rate and would be viable for something like a Bolt if you upgraded on a few years.

Trust me, once you start realizing the gas savings you won't miss the old car anymore. ;)
 
Used purchases are not eligible for *any* of the rebates unfortunately, including the EVSE related ones for purchase/install.

There was whispers about extending rebates to the used market as well at least so far is charging stations, however nothing has come of it to date.

With any hope our provincial government will be changing hands at the next election, so at this point it's hard to say if a conservative provincial government will continue to be so generous and forward looking for EV's and their owners. But it is what it is.
 
Yeah, I just read in detail the Ontario page, I updated my post above. Shame on them .. LOL

Trust me, once you start realizing the gas savings you won't miss the old car anymore. ;)

Interesting, I was flopping the idea of swapping my gas Mini for a small EV. I looked at the least expensive new Leaf lease. After deducting savings for gas, I was still stuck with a lease payment of 200$ a month and that didn't include any costs for electricity. So going off a small car to a new small EV doesn't make whole lot sense (purely financially, based on current gas prices and my driving patterns), if you own the gasser that is. It's a shame that there's a lot of good EV deals down in the states, which we can only dream of up here ...

Cool looking concept car. By the time it hits the streets, it will have sadly lost all of the cool.

It looks like its sitting on 225/40R20 (69 cm dia) on a vehicle smaller than a fit. It would be nice if concept cars showed something that was remotely possible (the biggest ever available on the fit were 205/45R16 [59 cm dia]).

Yeah, if only cars maintained their concept coolness.

Take the original Volt concept for example - awesome, kind of a mix between what we got and a Dodge Magnum...which I also like as I own one. ;)

Not that the end result was bad or anything (I still love the look of the first gen Volt), but the concept was way cooler.

I agree that switching from one perfectly good reasonably fuel efficient small car to an EV is a hard argument to make UNLESS your car was headed for the big parking lot in the sky anyways and you were looking at buying something regardless.

Then, in that case, if you're going to have a new payment anyways...it might as well be a payment on an (yes, probably used to be comparable in payment) EV that *will* save you money.

And yes, when you drive a gas guzzler the argument is WAY easier. I'll tell you one thing, I was looking at the gas gauge on my Magnum earlier today and realizing I'm going to need another $70 fill up tomorrow, and my trip odometer on this tank is only 410KM. 16L/100KM city driving sucks donkey balls.

Depending on how my job situation is come the spring (more rumblings there, ugh) I'll probably be looking for a second Volt come then.

Buying in the USA and importing isn't that difficult. If our dollar keeps climbing there's a very good chance that's where I'll buy said Volt.

In our situation it didn't really make sense financially to go from a paid off 8l/100km car to a newer model. Strictly financial.

however, having my wife able to drive either car, having warranty on drivetrain, me getting tired of driving manual in stop and go the decision was made to replace the car with a used volt. I've now driven 730km since we bought it and have yet to put in gas. Hoping to reach 1000km but wife needs it this weekend while hers is in for service. :(

my monthly gas payment is same as the finance and the 300/yr drop in insurance helped seal the deal.
 
Saw that earlier. Sweet looking car. Definitely a throwback to the old civic hatchbacks.

Not really ... it's a stolen VW Golf Mark 1 throwback, clearly. Honda, pls at least try to be inventive, even though very late ... LOL

Undoubtedly, as far as replacing a city car. The second car, needs to be larger weekend car, with ability to comfortably tow and good for long distance driving ... this one will be much longer in place.

If I was going to be ahead financially, it would be much easier to give up the fun Mini Cooper S .... it's much harder to give up fun, quick and very good looking car with easy sub 10l/100km fuel consumption for something like LEAF and end up paying more. That was my point.

I think my '78 Civic had a better interior! I don't like the plain-dashboard-with-touchscreen deal. Don't like it in the Tesla 3, don't like it in this concept, either.

You are so right. My brain was trying to tell me it looked familar but it never clicked.

It does indeed look like a total gen1 Golf ripoff.

But, I don't hate it...and any EV is a good EV, but as per my last post, I doubt it'll make it out of the concept stage looking anything remotely the same.
 
The outer shell is fine ... the dashboard is an extreme iPad pipe dream and future safety concern. As long as a driver is needed, in my view, these screens-only cars are clearly a liability. How can they not be?

If you ask a sane Tesla car owner (seems harder and harder to find ....) they will tell you how they hate the UI in current model S for certain things. And that model S has an actual behind-steering wheel dash, but because Tesla claims you don't need buttons, users have to tap screen many times and switch screens to open a sunroof, while driving .... strange solution from a company who is reportedly so concerned about saving people from crashing at all costs.

No real dash no real UI including buttons, no car sold to me .... simple.
