Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Interesting read. They claim...Even at today's gas prices. Running the tesla wasn't significantly cheaper

Add in the premium electric cars command,

And the "oil change money" they spent servicing other parts unique to electric cars

The gap may not be as great as many think...

Some of that is "them being stupid" (relying on DC fast-charging too much), some of that is Tesla being Tesla.

I love the look of the IONIQ5. Have seen a few of them around recently and if I wasn’t so cheap I’d let go of the Volt for that thing.

If I were buying a BEV, that would be it.
About 6 weeks ago I ordered a Kia Niro PHEV, went with the PHEV because it will be used as a work vehicle in the summer and sometimes need the additional range. However, with a charger at home and a L2 charger at work, it will probably run on EV the majority of the time.

That’s how I’m running for the time being. L2 at home and work let me go 90% of the time on EV.

The cottage runs are the only time I use any gas nowadays.

I do like the IONIQ. Would prefer the Mach-e….but $$$

My 2cts, the supercharger network is invaluable. Unless someone with a non Tesla ev can chime in. I've only heard bad things about third party chargers.

I've made multiple trips to Sudbury, London and Kitchener so far and never once had range anxiety or spent more time than expected at a charger. I can drive like normal always knowing I'm within ~100km to a supercharger. Wouldn't hesitate to just hop in and drive it to any major city in Canada or US at this point.

Now, if they opened these up to other cars like in some of EU, I'd be in something else instantly. Kia ev6 or a Mach E (not a fan of the ioniq exterior or interior.

stats for ya @SunnY S and that CD 'review': 5584kms in 1.5 months $106 on electricity, would have been significantly cheaper if I didnt have ~$50 in supercharging for long trips mentioned prior. Truck would've cost ~$900 for same distance @$1.6/L at 11L/100km

Musk had said he plans to open superchargers up to other brands to use.

I know. meant to say when but with Musk you never know, still waiting for my Cybertruck order.
All EU EVs use the same plug and it's still only in pilot phase with 3 or 4 countries.

Got the hitch installed on the Volt today. Very happy with how it looks.

That looks good wife has been bugging me to put on on ours for a bike rack. Apparently she doesn't like the 20l per 100k van as much at these gas prices. I was looking at the one that goes behind the plate but not looking forward to installing it.

I was hoping for a 2” receiver but my guy couldn’t get his hands on one. I’ll need to get the adapter from 1-1/4 to 2” so I can use the hitch carrier or bike racks we have.

I like the thoroughness of the article but I dont think it is reflective of reality for most BEV owners. They supercharged half the time and used 13.6 c/kwh as the number for home charging. Most people buying BEV's, most of the time will charge at home at off peak rates which dramatically changes the price. This is like filling a conventional car with premium just because you can and then arguing about operating costs.

The upside to their analysis was it did show that if home charging wasnt available to you (and you couldnt charge for "free" at work), buying a BEV to save money doesnt work now. Most people already knew that but this put solid numbers to it.

Edit:
They also ***** about the range hit when using the battery to precondition the car. Again, if you have home charging that's a non-issue. They just seemed to focus on behaving like dumb apes and made no attempt to think about the best way to operate the car. I havent seen C&D complain about the range hit if you warm an ICE vehicle up in your driveway to get cab at full temp before leaving.
