Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

I'm waiting for some knob to mount a small white board on a fishing pole so the car thinks it's following a line. The old following a cigarette home when you are drunk trick.

Done already.

Picture Teslas driving at 180kph when someone changes the middle zero on a 100kph sign to an 8. And then stoping in the middle of the highway when someone hangs a stop sign off an overpass.

Or, you know, just stopping at every Burger King because it thinks their signs are all stop signs as well.

First link dismisses the frequency with which signs are obscured. Any place where it snows has self-obscuring signs (and self-obscuring lane markings).

Means it needs to be alert to the possibility that any roughly 8-sided object at roughly normal stop-sign height off the ground in a position where a stop sign could possibly be expected, could be a stop sign ...

Can't fully rely on GPS. Construction worker holding a portable sign at a construction site where they have a temporary lane closure won't be up to date on anyone's GPS data ...

Humans can understand the circumstances in which a road sign might be obscured or might be in an abnormal place.

First link also contains a link to an Autopilot crash in which the Tesla failed to move far enough over to avoid a vehicle parked partly out into the traffic lane (because it's a narrow road).

Teenagers and other saboteurs are going to have fun with this.

I see 3rd party road construction stake trucks with stop/yield signs sticking up in the rack against the cab all the time. It's annoying to a human brain. Imagine (trying to) following one in a Tesla.

Found a Tesla quality control test video.

Why does CAA Driving Cost Calculator (https://carcosts.caa.ca) say the Prius AWD is only a tiny bit cheaper to drive than my AWD Mazda CX5?

The Prius was (~$10,xxx) and the CX5 was (~$12,xxxx).

Is this really accurate? I would only save ~$2,000/year with the Prius

What am I missing please?

What would the real savings be?

6 litres per 100 km versus 9 litres per 100 km (taking a guess at the numbers) is a savings of 3 litres per 100 km, roughly $3 per 100 km, if you drive 20,000 km per year that's 200 x 3 = $600 per year. Provided that you are not starting off with a vehicle that is an absolute pig, minor differences in fuel consumption aren't going to add up to big money compared to depreciation.

The big difference is going from 15 litres per 100 km (typical gas-engine pickup truck or V8-powered old-tech car, etc) to 9 (typical decent midsize car with modern tech - your CX5 should be in that ballpark), not so much from 9 to 6 (Prius etc), and it's really slim pickings beyond that.

Thank you!

This surprised me... Blow is my cost/month assuming 30k annual driving

I thought I could optimize car spending by going with a EV but the CX5 is actually pretty good

The car I need to kill is the GLI or get rid of my motorcycle :(

Maybe a EV truck.....
if you`re not in it for any features then just buy a corolla.

I actually leased a Corolla IM and it didn't end well

Mixture of wanting features, the annoying traction control system , the crappy build quality of that thing and the poor dealership experience.

That's how I ended up with a GLI now...

My goal was to own a COROLLA and both vehicles would be paid off -_-"

i hear you, i hated the TC on my Optima with a passion, thankfully it was manual so i just turned it off and rowed the gears in the winter. Outside of that, yeah you get what you pay for. I'm not enjoying the jump in fuel consumption on the X5 we just bought but you better believe i have a big ass smile on my face while sitting in traffic with the premium audio cranked.

One upside to driving a 5000lb behemoth is i don't get the left lane bandits riding my ass anymore, they just go around me.

You're going to punt the GLI over 27¢/day? Unless Mazda has done something about the body rot in the last few years.......

Just trying to find ways to reduce my monthly income to expense amount

I thought the EV case would be strong but turns out nope

Just trying to find ways to reduce my monthly income to expense amount.

But the EV case isn't strong enough to justify getting rid of either vehicles

Basically the only thing left, if I want to be frugal, is the motorcycle

The perils of renting and being unable to afford a down-payment on a house because they're all like 750k+ right now
well if you`re looking to save then get out of both and buy a generation or two old corolla or civic for awhile then get 1 or 2 side jobs and grind.

I'll clear $600/week cash without trying with 2 side jobs. time i'd otherwise spend in front of the TV.

EDIT: Poor choice of words, i should say the side jobs don't require much effort, physical or thinking. Still putting in 4-6 days/week.
