another car thread

I have finally admitted it and hate to say but Hyundai is the only car company in this segment that produces anything worth purchasing new in my opinion. They drive nice, have a ton of features, cost little to operate and are on the lower end when it comes to vehicle purchase price. I don't currently own one but they will be the first manufacturer we go to next year to look.

They have definitely stepped up their game. Fantastic designs and they are getting great reviews. Every time I see a Sonata I turn and look, just a really really sharp looking car, and loaded. For slightly more though I can get a Subaru Outback. Not loaded, but nice features. The Subaru just feels better on the road, more solid, quieter from my road tests. I have the brochures for both cars, going back and forth, leaning heavily towards the Outback, for longevity and flexibility with its size.

subaru's a tank of a car, tractor like, so, horrible pickup unless you get the turbo, but always been hogs on gas...i can't believe my old impreza, while reliable and built tough, would get me 10L per 100km on a 2.3l 4 banger...in manual, cruising at 100 on the highway...my passat with a 2.8 V6 would attain 6.5L per 100km cruising the same as the subaru...but when it got wet out or the weather hit, damn that car was fun to drive...

My wife's 08 Impreza is 10L/100km consistently. It is a tank of a car and handles like nobodies business with snow tires in the winter.

I'd personally test the Cruze considering you can get one with good options, 0% apr and decent warranty.

I did look at them, not the greatest reviews for dependability and longevity. Its also a very boring looking car in my opinion. I like the AWD of the Subaru and the looks, same goes for the Hyundai, except the AWD of course.

Subjectivity aside, consumer Reports trashed it in 2011, while autotrader UK said it was best in class for reliability. Who to believe....

I take them all with a grain of salt, and try and research forums for cars to get actual drivers opinions. I did not rule out the Cruze purely based on Consumers Report, its also a car thats very bland in my eyes, and I dont need to, or want to get something that I do not really like, even if it comes down to looks. I can get a good quality, dependable and solidly build vehicle, with no need to sacrifice on anything.

Buddy's company is leasing him a Cruze and he went and tested them...in the end he got the turbo model as he said everything else was gutless. His other car is a Mk 4 golf with the 2.0, so when he says something is gutless, he means it.

I wanna make our roads safer and winters more enjoyable for people, go subaruuuu ahah. If you drive as careful with a subaru as you do with your non-awd car, you probably wont get any huge issues.
A lot of tow truck drivers keep talking about how they don't "know subies" too well cause they dont break down that often! (also gotta say only flatbeds can be used for them)
Personally, with a 50l tank
I get about 560 km in my 06 impreza (2.5l engine)

The new ones are better on gas mileage, smaller engine (2.0l), cvt, etc etc

Dude, just get a HOnda.

You know you wannnnnt it

i think we're looking at sub-$30k new cars...
from what he's given us as choices

In that price range, I'd probably buy either a Focus hatch or an Elantra GT.

I've had a Focus as a rental car for a few days, and liked it.

The Elantra GT is a sharp little car. I took a look at it. For the price I am looking at spending, even a bit less I could get a fully loaded GT, with Nav and all the other bells and whistles. Just to small for what I want.

Supra is planning a return for 2013/2014. that's for you FR-S/BRZ folks.

The wife bought herself the 2012 Chrysler 200 touring. At first I didn't like the car to small for my liking. But we also just got rid of a dodge Durango. This car is actually a really nice looking car. I just made sure that she got the 6 cylinder and man this car has some get up and go. With the package we got it was well under the $30 g mark. Just my opinion but its a nice handling car. Should check it out. Nothing to lose if you don't like it.
Good luck.

Sorry, but what I heard/read about it doesn't thrill me.

The old supra was a highly moddable bulletproof engine. manual, simple.

The new one has.. none of those things? even if the new one is faster ( which it should be ), the point has still been missed.

You have a BMW bike... Why don't you just get a the matching 3 series? :P

I kid I kid

Well I do like the BMW cars, and I do like the 3 series, not ashamed :p

But I like function more, and the Subaru gives me that, a station wagon, solid build, reliable, looks good in my opinion with all the amenities and then some.
