Android Boxs - whose got 1?

+1

Also laptops aren't really meant to be run 24/7 non stop. These little boxes are cheap and can take a beating.

My 2008 macbook pro has been my HTPC, media server and torrent box 24/7 for about 6 years now :agave:

Its such a light load... almost any old PC or laptop will do the trick, unless you need 4k.

that's where those little android boxes come in nice. the odroid i have (C2) does 4K, 3D, surround sound, has hardware decoding for hvec .264 and x.265 and fits in the palm of your hand. with shipping, remote, power supply and case it was around $80 iirc. it's not limited to being used as a kodi or android box, it runs debian, android, libreelec/openelec (kodi with it's own OS) and others. people use them as fully functional computers and i've seen kits to hang them off a back of a monitor to clean stuff up.

Something must be up with mine then. I upgraded to Kodi 17 on my nexus player and things are slower and jerkier. Wondering if all the add ons have been optimized?

Hence why I said Jarvis and Pulse for reliability and ease of use for most and those starting out.

Kodi 17 and Schism all in 1 build works fine for me (built in Android on smart tv)
I use Jarvis for now on some of my Android devices. Shism has a Apple Tv style interface called Mimic (I think it's called that)

Some builds are still updating to Kodi 17.

I have a kodimaster build on it. I'll keep playing with it, it's functional, just a bit less refined than what I had before.

I don't know the specs of the Nexus player but if it is like the Firestick then look for the Firestick builds.
They are fast and light builds and still have all the features you need.

There are probably Nexus builds too.

I'm saving up for a pair of Nvidia Shields and that way I shouldn't have to worry about any hardware shortcomings.

I would suggest buying one of the boxes I posted.
It serves the purpose and does it very well and is cheap.
Once you can play a 4K movie, you are good to go.
Hell, you can buy a few for the price of 1 Nvidia box, lol

try looking for a build built specifically for your machine.

I'm running libreelec because i'm not interested in all the extra, I just want to play video and music from my NAS, my BR and PS3 have all the other apps available so no point in replicating it.

Builds tend to give kodi 90% of it's problems, the actual Kodi programers say this over and over again - why not just use a clean copy and load the few sources for the addons you use instead of having to load a build?

I got 4 addons and that is it, I do not need anymore.

From what i understand the libreelec/openelec are clean copies just with enough OS to run kodi.

but but but...how will I watch CCTV of some random street in a German town at 3am in the morning or get my fill of Turkish TV soap operas?

lol the funny thing about what you just posted is that since I am tech support for all my friends and wife's friends that have an android box, I had to find the damn link for the turkish tv addon since the box was for one of my wife friends parents.

What are the 4 addons?

I never had any issues with the builds I mentioned. I like the interface and it has a lot of different channels to check out.
Actually for those with older parents that might want to checkout tv shows from their homeland is not a bad thing.
It's also a way for kids to learn a new language also (with grand parents).

Yes, there are some useless to me channels, but you just delete them.

On another note, there is a cool app (2 apps) Kodi Configurator (from play store) and another similar.
Open the app, pick the Kodi version you want then pick the build you want and the app will install and set it up for you.
You can see pics and ratings of the builds also. You get to see the interface and it's simply just tapping your screen unlike when you have to manually type out the whole thing and go to each area to set up the add ons.
Click a button and switch builds in 2 minutes.

The builds allow people to use Kodi like Netflix because everything is on screen for them e.g. movies, tv shows, kids zone, workout, music, sports etc...
This is easier for older folks and ppl like Joe Bass.
And when the user finds channels of their interests they can click save as favorite and have them all in the favorites section.

btw- The Grand Tour in 4k is AWESOME (GT=Top Gear (same guys))

A lot of countries are already included in those builds, they simply scroll through the international tv channels then save as a favorite.

I use exodus for TV and movies. Specto addon for library integration, SALTS as a back up for exodus, sometimes salts has some specific shows in better he quality like gold rush. And prime wire and a back up to the backup.

I have the TRAKT addon just to refresh my library but it's not really an addon.
I got a motogp and wsbk membership so I don't need sports .

I found a channel that shows all types of bike racing including MotoGP.
Silent Hunter - all HD and 4k movies (a lot of shows in 4k, not all)
Grand Tour is here also.

What they are not counting on is the amount of subscribers like me that went from expensive full tv packages just to basic cable.

that article is 200k ppl...the younger generation watch less tv anyways, it's all online...meaning I can see a price increase for internet and cellphone services...get their $$ one way or another.

It is true for a $50 antenna you can get about 20-50 HIDEF over the air free channels...so there is your basic tv covered and supplement with something like Kodi and you only pay for internet service.
