Amber alert

Shaking my head at the "think of the children" responses in this thread. Every amber alert I've seen up until this recent one was a few beeps followed by a scrolling text across the bottom of the screen. Hell, that's all they do for TORNADO warnings. The blaring warning and red screen is supposed to be reserved for disasters and evacuation warnings.

Use this enough & we become conditioned to think it is not important. How many of you get out of your chair to look when a car alarm goes off?

Cars have alarms?

Exactly.
And I am thinking of the children as well.

I do.
And that says alot because I don’t move all that much.

As per your colleague, Joe, I agree there is no need for a siren.

I wouldn't col it a league so much as a kinship. Of the #NoHomo kind.

Another issue is how do people jump to the conclusion of kidnapping when an angry guy uses non-injuring force and intimidation to get a kid into a car and then casually gets in and pulls away?

Most victims would be kicking and screaming for their lives (I know I would) while the perp hastily and furtively tried to get the situation over with by any means available.

Paranoia and political correctness is probably how.

the police and media get lit up for not doing enough to get the word out when something bad happens to a kid, then they send sirens and scrolling text and get lit up for being over the top. Never happy.

I did see pictures of the PM holding twin pandas at the TO zoo , 27 times in one day so I guess that balances out things.

Like the police really care what the public thinks. We had an amber alert on a job a couple years back. One guy cut his forearm on a piece of tin. The company safety rep sourced kevlar sleeves with thumb holes for everybody to wear going forward. Imagine that, one guy cuts his forearm now 20 workers have to wear itchy dirty uncomfortable sleeves. It was retarded but, like the police, she didn't care. She covered her butt and justified her job. That's how I see these amber alerts, as described earlier in this thread.

Are you suppose to put your thumb in there or your elbow?

Google thumb hole sleeves. I guess my point is that a reaction to a problem isn't always it's mirror image but all encompassing to the detriment of a much wider circle of people. The question being, what's reasonable?

Must be pretty dirty. I guess nobody will want to shake your hands now

Oh it's an awful mess. Not a well thought out response to a non-problem.

Charge parents

I had the AP invitational interrupted because some stupid **** left his kid in a running car to go into the flea market? Charge him. And smack him for me while you're at it.
