Saw this today, made me sick to my stomach.
I really hope its not real, i like to be ignorant to the fact that people like this still exist.

WTF?! I hate people.

Joe, help me work thru this. Except for her comment about hoping they never find the kid is there any other problem with what she said? For instance I'm trying to work out a reasonable radius of alert and how much impact this action should have on other people.

The radius would be calculated based on how far a vehicle could possibly travel in the time the event was first witnessed, to the time of broadcast

And that can be further complicated by cable and satellite TV distributors picking up various local television channels for redistribution right across the entire province and possibly even in other provinces.

I think that anywhere in southern Ontario is reasonable.
Last comment was what I was mostly referring to.
Also, she says "on an American station". I guess she doesn't realize that it's a Canadian feed....through Rogers/Shaw/Etc.
I'm not sure how soon they posted the warning after it was reported, but after ~90 mins couldn't they hypothetically be in Toronto from Orillia? Or at least outer GTA? Hell, I'd feel bad if a kid was abducted in Florida. And if they posted it on my tv here? Dgaf. If that somehow brings a kid home safe, then so be it. Says a lot about our society when a tv show is more important that a life. I again, could have done without the siren. Anyone that had fallen asleep with the tv off would not have been any use to helping find the child. If I see an Amber Alert on Twitter, I share it no matter the location.

She was watching an American station which defined her world. If the station weather broadcast from Miami said hot and sunny would she go out in a snow storm wearing shorts and a tee?

If the final signal carrier is in the risk range it broadcasts the message.

So, an ear slitting sound every 30 seconds until the kid is found and safe in an ever expanding radius taking into account time x speed of the average white cargo van? Nobody sees a problem with this? If I'm on the 'puter reading GTAM should I get blasted every 30 seconds? How about radio? Every 30 seconds all day long? Tomorrow too?

Did you even read my reply? I agree that there wasn't any need for the siren. A beep would have been sufficient. Everything else I am good with.

I did, I'm just getting clarification on post #23 which had quoted me. I don't want any trouble.

Neither, my wayward son.

That was good. I like how we can still riff even under duress.

As per your colleague, Joe, I agree there is no need for a siren. I was merely responding to your question about radius.

let it be known that I have no affiliation with the opp and or the people who implement the amber alerts. I was just sharing what I know, which usually isn't much

Some people just don't give a damn till it impacts them personally.
These low life leaches on society are the same ones that ***** out cops and hate them but are the first ones to dial 911 when they need help.
These people are everything that's wrong with society today, everyman for themselves mentality.

On the other hand we had a break in a number of years ago. A neighbour saw someone in our back yard wearing a black hoodie and thought it looked suspicious but they also thought it might be one of our kid's friends fooling around. They didn't call the police in case their suspicions were unfounded and the police got annoyed. We came home to a looted house.

wow that sucks.....I wasn't implying that people shouldn't call in suspicious activity, I was just pointing out that they should be more diligent when doing so.

I'm just asking. Everything is about cost/benefit. Yes, even human lives as distasteful as that is. I would love for us to be one big happy caring community that extends out for miles and miles. But that's not how it is.

Excepting that mentality of how it is, is the main reason things are the way they are.

We all contribute to it. Unless you're a saint. Who appreciates a 10 mile traffic snarl because somebody swerved to avoid a cat? For example.
