Ideology is not an army, it's hard to fight. Radicalized Muslims will flock to Afghanistan, either to live under sharia laws or to be in a safe haven for Jihad training.

I suspect Afghanistan will head closer to life in the middle ages as it's gov't will neither be capable of governing, nor will they have international support, aid or investment. Life will get reduced to day to day survival.

I don’t think it’s going to be a safe haven…I do think it will be a drone strike training ground.
 
So a rag tag bunch of guys with weapons from 1947 (AK47) could beat a world super power with the most sophisticated killing machines known to man because they were fighting for god in stead of money.
If that's true, and I think it's close, good luck to anyone else trying to root them out.
Like Vietnam the US had no idea what the people they were fighting for really wanted.

I really feel for our Canadian service men and women on this one. They gave up alot to serve. I just hope something good came out of all of this.

Definitely agree, and I also am kinda disgusted by how our military is sent in to deal with **** piles here at home such as Covid-infected nursing homes, forest fire-fighting, and Mel Lastman in a snowstorm. It just ain't right!

That's pretty much exactly it. If you are fighting with your heart instead of your wallet, you are very hard to beat. Most of the us military bravado is just an excuse to transfer public funds to private corporations.

I did buy stocks in an Israeli defense company that made drones many years ago. I anticipated less soldiers and more drones. It has done well over time. I'm not sure there have been less soldiers but tthre have been more drones.

Maybe not safe, but probably the safest thing you’ll ever see if you’re a budding Mujahideen zealot.

The country is transitioning from democratic republic to a Muslim Emirate. In a perfect world it would behave like the other emirates in the region - that’s a bit of a pipe dream unless the root out terrorism.

it would be nice if they fell into cooperative good graces with Saudi’s, UAE, Kuwait and Qatar. That too unlikely as they are the dirt poor with limited resources and they are Pashtun, not Arabs. Alliances will more likely be Pakistan and China.

Won’t be a vacation destination in the near future.

At a war. The last shot fired at an enemy from US soil was at pearl harbour in 1941.

The worlds superpower has somewhat a duty to show up when a country’s political system implodes and warlords and dictators start consuming civilians by the container load as they carry out genocide.

or changed Iran's position on regional dirty tricks

I think boots on the ground are essential to contain the Taliban and stabilize Afghanistan

Your not going to see a culture change there anytime soon. The Taliban was a us Dem creation, Clinton formed them by funding, arming and training them to fight the Russians in Afghanistan in the 90s. The clock just turned back 25 years.

The Afghans didn’t put up much resistance, perhaps the see something we don’t.
