It’s not always holier than thou….it’s often “wtf are you thinking?”. At least it is for me.
Holy crap….people clinging to the side of a USAF plane taking off…

I hear it's similar to the relationship between New Zealanders and Australians?
Is that real? I’ve seen one of these blow a gate off a fence with those engines. Pretty sure they would mangle people efficiently if they are too close.
When you’re that desperate to hold onto the side of a plane it’s very telling.
It looks real to me. There’s a few Twitter videos where you see something falling off the plane…
There are a lot of similar videos/photos. It would take work to fake. Horrible for people to be that desparate. There were lot of people that were sitting on the wheel well doors. As soon as they closed, there would have been nothing to hang on to. I am sure what we haven't seen will be as bad or worse.
With proper vetting, I think it's a good idea. Those that directly helped us should be ok, their families can't get a free pass without substantial investigation to ensure we aren't patriating problems. Now, given the situation, it likely makes sense for them to be here during the vetting process.

a metro area the size of GTA with an existing multi-cultural mix
you don't really notice a recent influx from a refugee hotspot
spent a few days in St John NB on my latest bike trek
really enjoyed the city and was surprised by the number of kabob restaurants
I enjoy a good kabob
got talking to some of the locals and the NB Gov had taken in a large quantity of Syrians
mostly young families, as migration in the cities of young people is a net loss
don't recall a single negative comment from New Brunswickers about this
sure the arrivals needed some social assistance support after arriving
but virtually none of them stayed on that
a large portion ended up running small business, food, laundry, taxis etc
others took the low paying service sector jobs that Canadians won't do
they added some colour, food and variety to a city that is struggling
not all refugees need to go to TO, I wouldn't I were them
Not to derail this thread but the AK47 is an amazing weapon and probably more suited to close combat in Afgan conditions that anything that NATO hands out. In Vietnam the US troops used to pick them up from dead Vietcong as they performed much better than the M16.
I used to have one and its really just basic barn door engineering at its finest, but it could care less about mud, water, dust, sand, etc. It just works.
That's truly sad to see those people trying to cling to the side of the plane not rationally thinking there's little to no hope of surviving the air temperature up there (unless it's a short flight?) assuming you can even stay on the plane the whole time. Obviously a couple couldn't.
We've got a younger Afghan gal in her early 20's doing reception here and she and her family were to fly to Kabul on Sat to try and deal with something I'm not aware of.
I thought about her this morning where everyone's trying to get out of Afghanistan and they're trying to get in. Thankfully, I heard that at their stop-over in Turkey they changed their minds when they'd heard that Kabul had fallen (they may not have had a choice mind you with flights in not allowed).
On a Twitter feed somewhere (maybe the link above) I read that they executed the men who fought along the US troops right in front of their homes. So sad.

For those looking for other sources of news, a friend I trust has been following this guy for years. In the aftermath of major events, it is often hard to determine who it legit and who is piling in.
