Afghanistan has fallen

this was Ronnies' failure

Clinton's big failure not whacking OBL
when he was advised to do so and it was easy
Taliban emerged later, 1996 marking the end of the Afghan civil war. Mujahideen were not organized as Taliban till then.

Pointing out that their anthem glorifies war doesn't mean I hate the Yanks. Far from it.

cool. we're both a little bit right
Taliban were formed and named during the Clinton years, as you said
but they were not fighting against Russians

they were fighting a civil war against the Islamic State of Afghanistan
a group that formed the government after the war with Russia
who were not Muzzie enough for the Taliban

not sure which side, if any, were supported by the West/US

You say tomato I say tomado. At the very least it's a song about war or fighting.
Should I remain “Standing on guard for thee”?

Standing guard is not fighting. You're trying to stretch things a bit.

Not hate against America...
It's sheer disgust with the far right.
the whole "ME FIRST! SCREW EVERYONE ELSE AS LONG AS I GET MY OWN" and the ridiculous Anti-Vaxxer propaganda is what leaves a bad taste in most Canadian's mouths.

I have Democratic and Republican friends in the USA. The Democratics are much more lenient and helpful to their communities. The Republicans are the "Me First" crowd. Just an observation... The Republicans are the embodiment of Capitalism. As long as they get ahead, the couldn't care about those around them.

That's the difference.

So do I just stand there if the fight erupts?
Now you've stretched it too far. You're over reaching here Mike.
The song says nothing about fighting so the point is moot.

Who needs CNN when you have GTAM? I love this forum, many knowledgeable folks on here, with enough time, energy and ego to post their views. My ego is under-inflated, should be obvious. I have been on plenty of forums, this one is by far the most enlightening. Anyway, as you were....

I wouldn’t say that. I lived in the USA for a long time and still spend a ton of time there (except for the last 18 months).

Dems and gop actually mingle nicely on a day to day basis. They work together, play together, ride together, eat together, and this may surprise you - they sleep together and interbreed. Day to day life is about as polarized as you find it here between cons and libs.

At a kids soccer or hockey game it’s equally likely a dem or gop would be volunteering, same with pta, local missions etc.

Turn off CNN for a while. Jump on your bike and ride to California and back. Or fly to Disney for a week.

Then report all the scary things you witnessed.

Capitalism as it should be: I worked harder than you so I have a bigger boat than you

Capitalism as it really is: I worked harder than you so my boss has a bigger boat than your boss.

I understand that. Really I do.
2 of my best American friends are opposite sides of the fence. One a gun toting bit right wing guy, the other is the opposite.
They are friends too. I agree that left/right can intermingle freely and do so for the most part. It's the far end of each spectrum that's lunatic.

But, I stand by my statement on general outlook on life that each "side" portrays.

Back to Afghanistan - I truly fear for the women that can't get out before the Taliban arrives. Their life is going to take a decided downswing.

It's not just this forum, I find the vast majority of canadians have a, holier-than-thou attitude towards the US. Not sure if it stems from contempt or just plain jealousy but the "Canadians are nice" stereotype only exists when they are face to face.
