Advise on buying a new bike

The next couple months are going to be hard for all discretionary products, motorcycle dealerships as dealing in discretionary purchases included.

During the next year or so following it'd be reasonable to expect sizable markdowns on bikes, cars, tech and all else within the category.

When has the world's majority been out of work for 2+ months during a monumental but largely ignored market depression?

Big change is a comin, bike's will be marked down new and used prices ought to reflect the market's desperation.

I suggest you waiting a little bit before the trigger's pull.
 
In retrospect i think you should wait as well. There's a fair chance we go into lockdown still or have very stringent rules for movement, i'd hate to blow my load on a new toy and just look at it in the garage. Plus as others have said there's a good chance the dealers will be sweating in a few months to dump their inventory, might give you the wiggle room you've been looking for.
 
One further thing you want to figure out first, is exactly why you need an R1?

They start at $22,000, $28,000 for the M model.
That's a lot of money.
If you **** up the decision, it isn't cheap.
 
I think he's looking for advice on the actual dealership and what to expect from them.
I suggest you search the internet and find a shop with very little bad reviews. One that a friend likes and can tell you about his experience with that dealer.
Motorcycle dealerships are very different from a car dealer.

There will be no packages with free service for four years, there will be no deals to get extra special wheels and brakes, no interior decisions, no add on's.
The price is the price. You may be able to dicker a little on price and perhaps get them to throw in a pair of gloves or a helmet if you're lucky.

The tell you the price, you pay that price or you don't. They really don't care.

I suggest shopping for a 2019 model year if you are looking for a better price. How much difference is there between last years R1 and this years model.

If people dont buy new bikes..... I cant buy used bikes.

seriously OP, I'd also wait a bit and see where the world is going. But I'd still buy that bike if its what you want. Nobody needs an R1 but thats not really the point either .
I wear a stupid mechanical watch. My phone tells more accurate time. But thats not the point.
 
OP - I had not bought a new bike in 50 years of riding so pulled the trigger on a new CB500x ...good finance rate and I got the colour I wanted and $500 off a bike that rarely goes on sale.
Likely my last bike and never had a new one. Bought it to go cross country solo and did. :D

Bikes are all about dreams ? not practical matters....go for it.
Mind you 60 mpg and 400+ km range, and 70 lbl lighter than the CBF1000 real played a part.

I picked Milton Honda because they treated me so well when my CBF1000 stator failed.
7 year old bike but Honda warrantied it in full AND the dealer picked up the bike no charge. Could hardly not give them the business.
 
Thats actually nice to hear about Milton Honda, my daughters car buying experience there was a total F up, my nieghbors car was worse, I had a bike safety done and it was fine, buddies son was the motorcycle tech there for a while , he had no fun. My old work aqaintance retired from real work and became the bike salesguy, he lasted 5 months. Glad to see it may be getting better. Too few dealers already.

But it seems like your mind is made up, so yes, it's ultimately your call. Just remember that if you're tired of that bike in a year or two you're going to find that it's not going to be a sellers market again for many, many years to come. That's the plan, keep her for a long time. I do understand the depreciation part of it. Any other suggestions regarding motorcycle dealerships in gta area ?? Found out there aren't that many options when it come to two wheels.

Thanks, now is the dream time. Kinda wanna buy a bike (new) and keep it for a while.
 
I had a brief look on kijiji, not a lot of late model used R1's
but this one is interesting, 2015 never sold with zero km

R1 had it's last major update in 2015 so this won't be far off current
no idea why/how an R1 sits in crate for 5 years
but for 8K off the new price it might be worth checking out
no warranty or financing of course, but I've owned 2 new Yamaha's
never needed any warranty....I like the colour scheme too

dealer was investigated in '09 for selling salvage vehicles
looks like they managed to hang on to their OMVIC license
it was a long time ago, but I wouldn't go near them

I think everybody needs an R1.

I also have never ever understood all the people laying on about not buying a new bike.
If you want a new bike, buy a new bike.
I've bought 3 brand new bikes and loved every second of it.
I know how it was taken care of.
I know the service history.
I keep it the way I want it.
I hate wondering if the last owner changed the oil or just topped it off when needed or if he changed the air filters, so on and so on.

I bought it new, I took care of it. It's mine from mile 0. It's a very nice feeling riding around on a brand new bike. Breaking it in is a good way to learn the bike, until you can crack wheelies at will.

Enjoy buying a new bike and don't listen to all this depreciation bull.

Just because you don't care about depreciation doesn't mean it's not real or important to others.

how about if depreciation is a factor , never buy a new car, truck, boat, 4whlr, travel trailer,motorbike or a house near a canal in Buffalo.

saw that one, nice colors ... i really like the 2016 60th edition yellow which is super rare to find (always wanted the 06, 50th anniversary), but the 07/08 model was better)
15-16 had a transmission recall .. and now i'm thinking of getting the 2019 vivid red

Thanks...really appreciate the advice, owned 10+ used bikes in my life (not hating) and now i want the "new bike experience" .. i brake in, i service it, i F it up :D

Ive always bought and sold used bikes, nothing wrong with it. Now looking for a different experience.

Some of us really don't care about depreciation and honestly want a new bike experience.
