900,000 students coming in…

While the feds are the main culprit IMO there needs to be some blame on the provincial government(s) both past and present.

The entire idea that private mall colleges exist as-is today is a problem IMO. Even more so if they are handing out paper that does not meet the college standards of the province. If their credits and credentials do not meet the college standards (are recognized and transferable) well IMO they should not exist or should just be training centres that hand out a certificate. I have no issue with private colleges but they should have to meet the SAME standards. Add to this that if you look up the DLI list (Designated Learning Institutions--schools approved by the territorial or provincial governments to host international students), it is packed with shifty (and most without the f) mall colleges. Now many do not qualify for post gradate work permits (regular colleges and universities typically do) they still bring in many many thousands to foreign students and for the most part it is just a private money grab.

Here is a list, you can search Ontario and if you select non-pgwp....

I lost count, the number is large. There are some legit places but most are shifty without the f.
The "degrees" are mostly just a game to put in time in Canada to be able to buy real estate as a domestic buyer. Eliminate time as a foreign student from the calculation for citizenship/residency, consider all international students as foreign buyers and the whole industry evaporates overnight.

Food banks in Brampton are putting up “ no student” signs , food banks , churches and agencies are being overrun by international students looking for free food . What a mess

They're getting coached to use the food banks as a source of free food prior to setting foot in the country.

I’d like to think it’s just an unclear expectation, or maybe it’s just “ what can I get for free” . They aren’t alone , I knew of several folks bilking the system that grew up here ( and did not need services) taking what they could .

It’s disheartening, because a side effect is people giving , start picking other places to put their efforts ( and cash)

A lot of Canadians leave money on the table. They don't use coupons, don't ask for rain checks, don't comparison shop, don't return defective goods, don't check their change, tip even when service is bad.

Weirdly though, they line up 20 minutes for gas when it's a tenth of a cent cheaper than the empty station across the street. Then they go to Starbucks for a coffee and leave a tip. They pick up a bottle of filtered tap water that cost more than a liter of gas.

In third world countries every penny counts and if something can be gotten free it is taken.

JT gave over a million people the Day of Truth and Reconciliation off with pay. How many said "Well, I didn't work so take a day's pay off my next cheque."

Many of those students would go to food banks even if they were financially loaded.

As far as food banks go, I know a lady that used to volunteer but got fed up with people demanding specific brands.

PS I saw a TV reporter criticizing a food bank about their "No international student" policy.

Is this another "Woke" moment or an admission that Canadians are internationally seen as a bunch of saps.

Is there a big X over Canada on world maps. Hobos in the great depression would put an X on fence, sidewalk or gate indicating the people at the place would feed the down on their luck. Thus the expression of a "Mark" being a person easily taken.

American Republicans are portrayed as anti socialist. This isn't completely true. They can be very generous and helpful but they have to know you as worth of the generosity. They want to use their judgement, not numbly turning money over to a government that will use it to buy votes. (We know that isn't working either side of the border but it makes them feel good)

Mostly would imply more than half of the 900K are buying or own property (or say at least a large number)? I know it is a problem, I have no idea on the actual numbers either way but it does feel high to me because....

I see numbers of 2% to 6% foreign buyers (not just students) and sales around 600,000 total units a year in Canada. That pegs a high water mark of around 36K units to foreign buyers, even if they are all students it does not look like the main motivation to me.

Students are explicitly excluded from the foreign buyers numbers. There are entire subdivisions of 2M homes owned by international students in the gta.

The student that got kidnapped from his condo in North York a year or so ago. The cops knew he didn't leave on his own accord on account of his G-Wagon and Lambo still parked in his spots in the parking garage.

No doubt but 900K students are not buying all 600K (total sales in Canada) homes that sell, not even 450K of the 600K (most/half of the students buying) either. How many are coming here that have that kind of cash (yes some do, we all know examples, many do not)???

Again, I do not know the numbers other than "most" makes little sense to me. So while it may be the motivation for some shutting it down (buying Canadian real estate) is likely not going to stop foreign students coming here, mathematically it is very unlikely to be the main reason. It will impact certain ones though, yes. Not a reason to prevent changing the rules, just not the actual solution to 900K students....

Regardless, back to my point, a mall college that does not meet the standards of our public college system(s) should not be a gateway into Canada (should not be on the DLI), most of those places should not even exist IMO for many reasons (that is on the province(s) in this context but they do exist). The provinces and territories have a big hand in this problem, yet appear to be throwing their hands in the air saying they are innocent... all while people are cashing in. Rough numbers to me look like 1/4 to 1/3 of the entire DLI list are mall colleges of one sort or another, that is a huge door that can be closed without the feds at all, is it not???

Have had more than one 45 year old client with a family of 4 or 5, nice cars in the driveway of their 3 million dollar + house on lakeshore in Burlington/Oakville that told me they were "students". And their parents are almost always living there and milling about watching me do my job.

30+ year old, bearded men laughing hard that most Canadians still call them "students", so hey, why not to try the food banks - maybe people running them are not so bright either...

Meanwhile downtown Toronto

The singer of that song, Moose Wala (RIP), is himself an international student

It was not related to the killed rapper. This from this Halloween, just search on YouTube Halloween downtown Toronto Punjab police. Or Eglinton plaza Mississauga - even my Indian friends are not to happy with all these events.

It's sad that their poor relatives back home sell whatever they can to fund trips for these hooligans. I've seen at least 5 recently opened "Colleges" around Tomken / Britannia industrial area in Mississauga with hundreds of these students attending every weekend. Some are just converted old warehouses. It's a widely accepted scam that politicians turn blind eye on.

That PUNJAB Mustang GT has been flagged on Reddit as a douche driver and parking a$$hat.

Apparently it’s some mortgage broker in Brampton.

I don't understand why the immigration question is so difficult.
There are legal ways into the country, use them.

If you show up here illegally, you get sent back. It makes it very simple.
I didn't know, is not an excuse under the law.

No wonder Canada is seen as a joke for fake immigration…

I'm afraid I have to disagree with this type of amnesty. While it may not be the student's fault directly, that isn't the issue -- it's that they arrived or were admitted using fake documents which would only be for one reason -- they were not admissible with real ones.

I say send them back without the 5-year prohibition to reentry. From there they can take the same legal path that others follow.

Bleeding heart liberalism is going a bit too far for me.

I believe this is the case where a law exists but is rarely enforced, lots of businesses get cheap slave labor, landlords make bank, everyone wins (except canadians)

Start prosecuting the canadians that signed the paperwork as a first step. If you are a shady employer, school administrator or immigration consultant, you belong in jail.
