I just moved, and this place is a bit bigger than my last...having said that, it's time to buy another TV. I'll be going for an LCD this time, cuz there's no way in hell I'm moving another Plasma..(FML that thing is as heavy as a baby rhino)

In any case, after reading up on TV's nowadays, there is quite the price difference between the 60Hz and 120Hz.

All the reviews, articles and tests etc. state that the Hz refresh rate doesn't make a difference since the human eye can't catch the differences anyways.

Anyone notice a difference between the two? Suggestions on what i should buy next? Not gonna go over 40 inch since it's for the bedroom and anything over and above that would be like sitting front row at an IMax movie. LOL

I have a 47" 240Hz TV that I bought a year and half ago. Thing is beautiful when compared to other TV with lower Hz. You can notice the difference if you go into future shop and watch two TV with different Hz.

Hz really makes a difference the bigger the TV gets... 46" and up you will notice the improvement easily, and with 1080p/blurays it is incredible. Worth it IMO. My 2 Sharp Aquos are both 120 HZ, but I had 60HZ similar older models and love the improvement. Guests easily notice too.

120 is divisible by 24 (movies) and by 30 (tv). That's why it's so hot and that's why anything above is just a marketing gimmick. As for the specifics... Look into getting a Vizio. They are locally assembled, so some manufacturing money is left in our regional economy, excellent quality and cheaper than the Korean stuff. The Mrs. and I picked up a 55" LED Vizio (LED is really LCD, but the difference is in the backlight... LCD uses compact fluorescents like a normal energy-saving light bulb and LED uses LED's which use even less energy, allow for a thinner profile, less weight and depending on the LED-array, you can get much deeper blacks from it) and we've been very happy with it. It sees quite a bit of daily use. We picked ours up at Costco (they've got a very good selection, sms me if you don't have a card) and TigerDirect has a few in their selection, mostly smaller models.

I read that Samsung LCD uses LED backlight technology though?

That's quite possible. In that case Samsung would be the only company not using misleading advertising. I didn't really look into it because Samsung was out of our price range in the 55" LED segment.

I don't like the look of 240. It looks like a hi-def camcorder.

Shouldn't make a difference.. It will still show TV at 30 and movies at 24. Probably just came across a TV with a poorly designed GPU or (more likely) poor settings.

I saw two at family members homes during christmas. I didn't mess with the settings too much but I saw a variety of things playing on them and they both had that same look. When I changed the mode back to 120 it looked fine. As long as mine holds out, I won't be in the market for one until we've moved on to the next gen anyway.

Sneak into a Costco and take a look at the Vizio's.. TigerDirect should have some too. I'm not telling you to absolutely buy one, but they are typically comparable to Samsungs an LG's for 20-40% less.
