3 days and still no safety

Racer5 - Nice people there, excellent customer service.

For future reference.

Same issues- yeah red flags went up for me when their(cycleworld super store) pick up and drop off price was over double than the website price- then when they started telling me all the extra stuff required for a safety, I checked and nothing the guy said was required, like he was already screwing me before I got there lol- I'm calling Ted, I also heard that Canadian tire is a good place to go if Ted is busy

told 2 weeks for the first service so expect the same. My recommendation go get a temporarily permit and plates and take it to Rosey Toes will be done in minutes assuming that the bike is okay.

Not 100m away from Cycleworld Superstore is Canadian Tire (Sheppard/McCowan). Call ahead and check if the motorcycle guy is working. He rides a black older Suzuki. He can do a safety for you. Candaian Tire is close enough for you to PUSH your bike there and get your safety done. Still, I prefer going to Ted Rose. A safety should only take 15 mins. Padding your bill with unnecessary items is what the old Cycleworld used to do to me. Even though it is not the same store, that is so wrong. Ted would never do that.

I guess I got pretty lucky with Cycleworld... I rode in there on a sunny day last July and had a safety and key cut on my old 250 in an hour. No bill padded, though the bike was a 2011, maybe that's why. They don't have great customer service, but neither do most car shops. Usually a mechanic that started his own business instead of working for "the man". He fixes bikes. Organization and customer service are not priority in some shops.

When I left my bike at Pro6 when they had their labour discount it was there for several days before it was worked on. Guess it's busy!

Should've had Ted (Rosey Toes) do the safety at your place...

Tell cycle world not to touch your bike. Call Ted, while your bike is still at cycle world, and ask him to do the safety in they're parking lot. Get your plates from the MTO, then ride over to teds shop and have your oil change done in half an hour.

For Teds sake can we please stop trying to get his ability to do safeties revoked? If you know that he travels around please dont post it. Save that info for PM. Your not allowed to do safeties cept in the shop your registered for. I know he does everyone a favour so please do one back.

they should know to hire more people when its busy season and make the process faster for their customers..i never liked how cycleworld did their business.

yea, thats what they want to do.....

Go through a hireing process, tell the guy there gonna give him next to nothing and only keep him for a month......

Just think about it. Sure there busy, but so is everyone else........
People always wait till the last minute, wait in line like everyone else, or take it somewhere else. Plain and simple.....
Its not like they are making big bucks doing oil changes and saftey's anyhow.

I'm not sticking up for them, but really, this isn't bringing it in for a "full service".

Oh snap! I must have missed the memo. Was it the one that started off with rule #1 don't talk about Ted's safeties, then rule #2 don't talk about Ted's safeties?

Ted at Rosey Toes does house calls.

Ask the sellers why they're selling 'as is'. Some don't want the 30-day safety to be expired. So ask them if you pay for safety, will they safety it before you buy it. Or bring a mechanic with you. Ted Rose from Rosey Toes can inspect the bike for you, as an example.

Ted came to my place on a really cool moped (Tomos if I remember) when he was certifying my first bike :)

Ted from Rosey Toes dropped by this morning to safety the 650R I'm selling. This is the bike he road in on! Actually, this is the second bike he's safetied for me. Cool guy :)

Ted has come as far as Newmarket to cert my bike. Def a standup guy!

Ted has certified bikes for me on a few occasions.
He would come out to a corporate location in Mississauga with almost zero notice to help us out whenever we asked... and has also certified a bike for me at almost midnight on sunday of a long weekend at my place. All at very reasonable prices for what we were asking of him!!!

Brendon,

If you can't find someone you trust that knows what they're doing, then your best bet is to get a reputable bike shop to inspect it for you. I believe Rosey Toes even does mobile safety inspections, in case the bike can't be moved (I've never used them, though, so I can't vouch)...

Aside from having Rosey Toes come out and do the cert for me, I was wondering if anyone could reccomend a shop that could do a cert for me that's located downtown or just east of downtown...

Cheers

Ted's safeties have helped many of us who can't ride the bike to a shop. The guy doesnt do "fake" safeties where the mechanic just signs off the paper without even looking at the vehicle (I know several mechanics who do this). He's a mechanic, he's licensed, he checks your bike, he gives you a safety - all without you having to pay towing fees etc...

Oh, there it is.

Not that I condone illegal safeties but for Roseys sake. If he honestly does this kind of safeties can we please be nice to him and keep it to PM and not open. You are all talking about how hes helped you by doing it and now you are potentially getting him in a lot of trouble.

Lovely 'thank you' imo.

Thanks tips!

He should have his licence revoked. He doesn't properly check the bikes and breaks the law as posted here many times. I wouldn't trust a bike safetied by him as you have no clue if anything was even checked.

LMAO! Hey I don't have a problem getting safeties through my own channels. Im thinking of everyone else. Your choice if you want to screw someone over whos only aiming to help.

I'm not one to judge. I have one bike that has more than a few features that makes it difficult to safety. Just think people are being selfish. If someone has a problem with it then they should report him. Personally, I see it as him trying to help.

Before you accused anyone of not properly checking bikes, please know your facts and what a safety really entails. I know for a fact that Ted would not safety my friend's bike until his rear tire was replaced.

+1 - On my first bike front pads were done. I had brand new pair in my garage, showed it to him and he told me to get the tools out.
Only after we replaced the pads he did the safety. And adjusted several other things alone the way

The 1st rule of Ted's Safties are: You do NOT talk about Ted's Safties.

The 2nd rule of Ted's Safties are: You do NOT talk about Ted's Safties! :p

Rosey Toes is awesome.

Shops were busy for a long time now. However decent shop is not rude on the phone and would set expectations on how long will it take.
OP is new rider, just got his ride and cycleworld does not even have basic level of customer service to manage OPs expectations.
All that aside from bad rep they got over the years screwing people over with service and sales.

The part about him being a new rider rings so true. Whether they're busy or not, the way they talked to him would guarantee (in my case) that they lost a customer for life.

If I buy a bike and they tell me is going to be ready by Tuesday next week, I go pick it up that day as I am told. If they do not have my bike ready before the "Tuesday", I expect a phone call letting me know so that, 1) I don't waste my time, 2) be given a proper reason why. Truth is they should have told the OP a date for pickup and stick to it, if he did not get a clear one, he is at fault because then they can keep his bike for as long as they want. Is simple customer service thing, I don't care if you have 300+ bikes to look, heck I am even willing to go help you get them done if you respect me when I question you about my bike which I am paying to get checked just like everyone else.

I think the OP should have either taken his bike somewhere else or ask for a refund. I don't know his position on the shop or anything, but I would have been ****** by now and been on that personally by going to the shop.

You guys need to lay off on the whole Ted thing, not the thread for it....

OP I hope you got your bike.

I would like to know where this is written into law as I do not believe it to be true. What could prevent a certified mechanic from doing a valid safety inspection away from his place of work? If the safety certificate is done poorly the mechanic's name and license would be in jeopardy. This is true irregardless of where he does the inspection.

Feel free not to believe it, but the mechanic is merely the authorized inspector, not the issuing inspection facility. In other words, shops are accountable for the safety certificate being issued, as they direct and employ the person signing it. A mechanic is not authorized to write his own inspection report without the papers being assigned to an accredited facility. As a matter of consumer protection it is necessary to protect the public from a shady person, by ensuring that these certificates are regulated by accredited facilities. I can't refer you directly to the written legislation, but in my experience in the trucking industry, ALL of our repairs are done on a mobile, but my annual safety has never been allowed unless the vehicle goes to a licensed shop.
