2022 Gas Prices - Will $2(+) per Litre slow you down?

Over the last couple of years people in Ontario have come crazy buying recreational vehicles, including large trailers and pickup trucks to pull them. I suspect that if you can afford a minimum of $50k- $65k for truck and maybe $35 - $50k for a trailer that rising fuel cost isn't going impact your usage of the rig.

That said, I think in a couple of years we're going to see a flood of recreational vehicles of all types on the used market as people realize that they're just not using them as planned and that, overall, they're expensive to own, insure, maintain and probably a pain to store for the 50 weeks of the year when they're not in use.

A neighbor purchased an older 5th wheel trailer, then had to trade in their existing pickup for a larger model to pull it, it had expensive fridge repairs and the brakes were shot........... They purchased it for a years planned month long trip to Yellowstone and had it for 3 - 4 years in total. If you calculate the overall incremental cost of the truck, trailer, repairs etc they could have stayed in high end hotels for a fraction of the cost.

RVing makes zero sense if you compare it to hoteling , its for a very different experience. Often there is not a hotel where the nice campgrounds are, its fun to cook out and its sort of outdoors. But yes dollar for dollar , your paying for the trailer when its parked, the hotel is not your problem when your not in it.

I think with many of the RVers, fuel will be an issue, you can finance the tow vehicle and trailer up to 84 - 96 months if you want. the gas gets paid every 30days on the visa.

I saw a pontoon boat on line with 22yr financing available! I get the "have it now" but literally paying on a pontoon boat for 22yrs? at 9.9% financing . yikes

Our station jumped 20 cents in 24 hours. Started the morning yesterday at 152.9, was 159.9 at lunch, 165.9 after work and this morning 172.9. It's likely still the same fuel that's been in the ground all week. Ugh

Hybrid f150 gets around 12L/100km... Around the same as driving a enthuasist car like the WRX STi

hybrid gets much better real world. I get that with the regular turbo v6 3.5 and I have a heavy foot.

Depends on how much over $2 91 octane gets. It always hurts the wallet to drive the M3, it'll just hurt a bit more.
What year? I just picked up a 97 coupe after looking for many years for a clean one. Found one with 140,000km on it. Can't wait for summer now. Don't plan to drive it much though, probably just weekends. Taking the seadoo up to Muskoka for the weekend is going to get a lot more expensive this time around.

Recently drove a friends 2019 gmc 2500 diesel up to holiday valley and back and it had a DEF empty error the whole way there giving me a km countdown saying in 50km your speed will be limited to 100km/hr....then 40, then 30 etc. driving on the highway not being able to go over 100km an hour was very annoying and almost felt dangerous.....then it gave me another countdown saying in 50km you wont be able to go over 80km/hr..lucky I made it back before then and he took it to the dealer the next morning.

Yup makes no sense, saw it this morning 179 at shell.
We have ton's of oil in Canada.
I guess they are making up the difference for when it was 80c in the first part of COVID, same with the gov making up for lost taxes.

My hybrid Camry is sitting at 6.7L/100. Winter driving doesn't get the same fuel economy as summer. Heat and other acc's bring it down. I see the difference when the weather changes.
Had a v6 3.5L Accord previously it was around 10l/100, but it was way more fun!

definitely. I get 11-12 in the summer, 12-13 in the winter.
summer isn't amazing because I mostly ride the bike and only drive the truck when I need to carry people or haul stuff.
also drive faster in the summer because it isnt all wheelspin.

I think my dad will stop taking his E250 to the cottage for a lark....he called to see if we can take the Volt this week instead lol.

Finally he's seeing that it's not an efficient way to travel, especially when you don't actually need to carry all the weight for kicks.

I'm reaching 1900km on a tank of gas right now. Will fill up tomorrow at COSTCO at 6:30am though. Average is 1.4L/100km on this tank.

almost filled the F-150 from near zero, stopped $200 .........

new ride is expected at end of March . I'll be out another $7-800 bucks in gas by then LOL

Mine's an '02 E46. The S54 motor is a thirsty beast though, I get ~ 14L/100km without really getting on it.

The E36 is pretty cool, and is definitely a bit of a sleeper since you can't really tell it from a garden variety E36 coupe.

My average since covid is ~15L/100kms ('18 Ridgeline). I use the auto start, so I can waste a few litres warming it up. Almost never get on a hiway anymore, just grocery gettin'. One tank over the winter was 20.5L/100kms. "Normal" use averages between 8-10L/100. I fill up every 6-8 weeks.

Yeah all this discussion had me rethinking. Better to buy a beater truck, rent or borrow a friends until I NEED one more often then a handful of times a year.

@mimico_polak BMW M240i, should I?

Hell yes! My BIL had one...what an awesome beast! He had the Auto with AWD and the thing was a beautiful sounding machine. An angry beast that made 'it' move...such a nice sound...

If you don't hammer it, it's not all that bad. Much worse than a 230...but for the fun factor...awesome machine.

I didn't pull the trigger on an M235 when I had the change...glad I didn't...but it would've been stupid fun.

Yeah I’d spring for the new one. Looks way better. Think it’s a different motor too.

In the spirit of the recent Tropic Thunder postings, it's nice to see BMW didn't go full retard on the grille on this model.
I think the 2 Series coupes are sexy beasts and love them. My favourite was the 135i N55 but I could never find one that worked for my budget/taste unfortunately.

One of my favourite models.

Just bought up an old Midget from the southern states as a present for my wife. Had one as a kid, she was devastated when I sold it. I used to go 250miles on 7 gallons. I've owned several British cars, they occasionally get better mileage than Volts.

The mini gets terrible mileage but lots of smiles per gallon. Midget is a cool car.
