2022 Gas Prices - Will $2(+) per Litre slow you down?

GM picked a bad time to start making pickups in Oshawa again. I hope it doesn’t effect things - gotta figure $2/L will be a mental barrier for many once we cross it.

That being said even at $1.60 a litre today I still see people driving 150KPH on the 401 in their bro dozer pickups, so I guess they either don’t care, or are (more likely) crying endlessly about gas prices but not making one tiny bit of effort to use less by, you know….slowing down.

In talks to go hybrid work model so it evens out the bike use :).

Cancelled a trip to Quebec

@mimico_polak - that drive gonna suck
I'm never taking the X to work. I have done the 401 on a motorcycle, and a manual transmission car...never again.

It literally killed everything I found enjoyable in riding. No thanks.

The drive will suck, but I'm pushing to work 7-3 instead of 8-4 and if that flies it won't be so bad. Will have to wait and see. If COVID comes back (which I expect it will) and start tearing through again, we'll probably go back to a WFH. But I'm in construction, hard to do this job from home.

My bikes get better gas mileage than my car, so soon I'll switch.

My smallest bike is a 125, it gets about 90MPG and has a top speed of about 105KMH -- that will be my around-town transportation this summer.

My biggest hurt will be marine fuel, generally more expensive and 500-liter fillups are gonna sting.

If you want to save big bucks assess your need for that 2nd car. We went from 2 vehicles to 1 in 2020. Including depreciation that 2nd car can cost you a minimum $10k - $15k a year. If you can make it work, then big savings in after tax dollars.

Will certainly be riding the Versys X 300 more often now vs the Z900. Those 3-4 hour weekend trips add up, especially with premium.

I dont even want to consider marina gas, we run 10 outboards coach boats from 25hp to 140hp for the sailing school 6-8hrs a day for 4 months. And our horrible 350ci 4barrel tank of a committee boat .
Last yr fuel bill was 16k , it should easily be 20k this yr.

Thank God my 2GM 14hp yanmar in the sailboat is super efficient .

The Triumph actually gets the worst mileage of anything we own , but I'll still ride

We went to a single car when I was flying FIFO as it was just sitting there. Now that I'm back, and now that I have to commute again 3/5 days (hopefully never back to 5/5) it's not even an option.

How do you like the 300 @Nikola Tesla? It's on my short list as it's more off road friendly than the 500X from all I can see.

Lol yup, I did some work a couple years ago for the port authority, outer harbour marina in Toronto, the money people spent on fuel is nuts, even just regular folks… I remember one guy said he was doing a little vacation trip to some islands down south and planned to spend 40k on fuel alone, boat wasn’t even a yacht or anything that big…

History repeats itself. my gf's sister is historian and she found us some newspapers articles from the old days when inflation was over 20% (50s) and 15%(80s) with all those conversations about muscle cars future - those died out but came to life recently... what's next you would guess :)

BTW
The gas prices in Germany already 2.5CAD (2USD) - they have taxes on gasoline way higher than here in N-A, plus inflation...
