2011 Kawi Ninja 400R - It's Here...

It looks like a downscaled 650 rather than an upscaled 250. Not sure if this is the right sales tactic.

small version of the 650r, didnt really like it, 250 looks nicer in my opinion

I love the idea of a 400cc bike, and would probably get one if the right one came out, but this one dosent have what i want.

To start i dont like the looks personally.
The next thing is that it would deffinately have to be an inline 4 engine.

The next thing is that it would deffinately have to be an inline 4 engine.

We've discussed this ad nauseam. A 400-4 would cost the same to make as a 600-4 so the purchase price would also be very close. Since there is no CC limit for new riders in North America, everyone would just buy the 600s. Other countries get 400s because new riders are forced to ride smaller bikes.

People were talking more about those little, high rev, 4 cyl. sport bikes rather than this:
as others mentioned, obviously a mini Ninja 650.

Nevertheless, still a good idea. Should be a low insurance, affordable bike, much better suited for highways and long trips than the 250.
It pretty much replaces the EX500, so I'm not so surprised with the sport-touring look.

Should be an amazing starter/economy bike for those looking for more comfort and power than a Ninja 250 or CBR125 can offer.

way better looking than 250 for me.

dual disk too.

You could tell me it's a Vuvuzella 375 and i'd believe you.
Looks like any other to me. :dontknow:

Two words: FUEL INJECTION

FTW!!!!

It's meant to compete against GS500 better, as Ninja 500R sales were slipping due to the outdated styling. I guess that's why it imitates the 650R for more of a sport touring look, instead of SS look of ZX6-R.

I'm sure Kawasaki doesn't wish to affect the 250's market domination either and 650s never sold THAT well, so if they take a slight dip but 400R ends up being a hit - Kawi wins.

To me it's close to perfect. Save cash on insurance. Do 2-up and hit the highway. Always have said, drive a fast car slow, or a slow car fast. Probably gets incredible mileage. I know the 250R is a great bike, this seems just a touch more serious so could spend some time on this rather than a pretty immediate (1-2 year) upgrade. As well, now the noob's will have a choice of first bikes - hopefully bring the used 250R's pricing in line over the next couple of years.

Bit applause to Kawasaki. Finally someone gets the need for something with less than 600cc mill. Comes even with EFI, looks pretty good es well. But then I look at the MSRP and that's where I don't get it ....

Ninja 650R .... 8699
Ninja 400R .... 7499
Ninja 250R .... 4999

Now, considering that it's basically the same engine platform as 250R and 650R, I think the price is high to start with, too close to 650R to be attractive. It's a heavy pig too, virtually identical weight to 650R. So someone who doesn't mind riding these numbers will probably end up with 650R, unless you can get insurance low enough to your linking.

Again, kudos for the effort, but it doesn't look like it will make sense to me.

Good looking bike. It has fuel injection and good looks and I like the location of the exhaust (like the 650R).

I don't see how the 250R is better; 400R has FI plus a much larger engine.

Too bad about the demise of the 500R- it was the best beginner's bike and it was built like a tank.

If I was in the market for a beginners bike I would strongly consider the 400R.

The bike looks attractive but the price not so much... When i bought my Ninja 250 i would've still went with the Ninja 250 and upgraded to a 600 CC rather than 400 CC than 600CC.

For the price, can't you get a ZX6R with like a grand more?
