New Rider, First bike: Which one??? (Guide to choosing your first ride)

Depends on your maturity and self confidence. I went straight into an 800cc sport/tourer and have felt comfortable right from the beginning. I ride within my abilities and am enjoying my bike.

    I Saw You: V.2.0

Couldn't tell what it was at 7:15 this morning 401 westbound at Harwood. Possibly a BMW? Huge paniers (with lots of lights or reflectors couldn't tell) with a rider with that bright neon yellow/green helmet with the jacket to match (to each their own). So you wear this bright stuff with large...

Hey Fernan. Hi from another rider in Whitby, I have a `12 BMW F800ST. I've been riding mainly a couple of days a week to work, not much "pleasure" or weekend riding yet.

Do you listen to music while riding?

No, I don't want to get distracted. Also, I find in this busy world I (we) live in, I never get any peace and quiet and time to myself, on my bike I do! No music for me...

    I Saw You: V.2.0

OK, so to the guy at 5PM last night going westbound on Hwy 2 approaching Salem road, I was on my Blue BMW 800 - thanks for the laugh!!! I couldn't tell what bike you were riding, but you were riding with no hands and had your arms spread out like you were flying. Then you gave me a big two...

    I Saw You: V.2.0

So I was out for lunch walking at Yonge & Sheppard today when a motorcycle (I saw one! Didn't see what it was, happened too fast) who was lane splitting knocked a guy on a bicycle of his bike and then took off! I don't care what anybody says, regardless if you are middle age, 22, "uptight" 22...

    Noob Riding errors..plz help

Some good advice sprinkled with some unnecessary comments - this is a newbie! Take it easy and try to remember when YOU first started. There are a couple of offers to take you out and help you out - take them up on it and become a better rider! For the couple people that offered that, good for...

New Rider, First bike: Which one??? (Guide to choosing your first ride)

FeelsSoGood, Last summer I got a BMW f800ST. The main reason was that I thought whatever bike I bought I wanted to keep it for several years. So I think the 800 is a good choice, don't see much reason to change it for awhile. Enjoy!!! I'm also a newbie and found the bike easy enough to learn...

    I Saw You: V.2.0

Re: I Saw You, Are you on this forum? V.2.0. Whitby Brock & 401 Saw a BMW 800 at around 7:30 this morning, black I think. Car showed -3c, brrr. Mind you, went back home, put on some woollies and 30 minutes later got on my bike as well to ride to work. -2c. Around 8:30 eastbound this...

    I Saw You: V.2.0

Thanks for your comments. Yes, the main thought was why be in the middle lane with cars passing on both sides while you are going less then the speed of traffic around you. There actually is a law that few people know which is that you must drive in the right most lane that is open - but that...

    I Saw You: V.2.0

I know I've only started riding this year and I have no right to judge or suggest, but I gotta say something. I saw you last night 9:30PM 401 eastbound Express lanes in the dark and rain. So dark that I don't even know what you were driving. Bad/weak rear driving light, whatever I guess it is...

Welcome! I'm 45 myself and just started riding this year. I got the BMW F800ST which might have been a little much at the brginning but at the same time it made me take my time and ride within my limits - now? Lovin it I take it to work a couple times a week and will try to ride as late into...

    Soon to be new rider

Also middle-aged and took the test in July. I was going to start with a 500 but got an 800. There was a bit of a learning curve, in retrospect I might have started with a used 500 and bought an 800 next year, but --- regardless I'm lovin it!!! Depending on your personality and how the bikes...
