    Coronavirus

You really, really do not want to go down this road. This is one of the main arguments against universal healthcare, and that is that it takes the responsibility of personal health away from the individual and makes it the business of the state. Any activity that can impact someone's health is...

    Coronavirus

And where in your table did they provide numbers for the denominators, or provide per capita test positivity? One postal code could have triple the population of the adjacent one. One postal code could have mostly young people, who are less likely to go get a COVID test because their symptoms...

    Coronavirus

Percent positivity is a useless metric though, unless the number of tests conducted is standardized per capita. If you only test 20 people and they all test positive (nursing homes, for example), then your positivity rate is 100%. In fact I'd argue percent positivity is entirely useless right...

    Coronavirus

But not York Region, because everyone knows COVID can't cross Steeles. Another example of how asinine these lockdowns are.

    Speed cameras

There's a relatively new one on Jane now, between Lambton and Eglinton. It's a 50 zone on a hill and the sign advertising the camera is a bit obscured due to long tree branches. I've seen lots fall victim to it already.

AFAIK internal mobility rights have not yet been challenged, so we're in uncharted waters. If they do issue regional stay at home orders I hope someone successfully challenges it in court. Such orders set extremely concerning precedents for people's rights.

It will never happen here as mobility are rights are largely protected by the constitution (as it should be).

No, the system is fine as is. It was designed intentionally to encourage unity. If you make it based on population then people in the coastal cities will dominate every election, to the point where large parts of the midwest/south will have no incentive to participate in the union whatsoever...

I bet Peel will be in full lockdown come December. Their cases are and have been out of control, and it's Diwali this weekend so it's not looking good.

    How is your workplace adapting?

This is true, but my company has a well established remote culture so I'm not concerned. The company policy for a long time has been that pay is based on geo, not by office status. I suppose that could always change but for now I'm not too worried.

    How is your workplace adapting?

Software developer at a company with a large percentage of the workforce already 100% remote. I used to go into the office until COVID hit in March, at which point everyone in the company was put into WFH. In May I applied for full time remote status and it was approved so I am never going back...

RIP. Thunderball and Goldfinger are my favourite Connery Bond films.

    Coronavirus

Others worried about getting infected can control their own risk by not going out. Ah yes the goalposts have moved now, instead of keeping people out of the hospital now it's about keeping them out of the hospital ever. If it means bankrupting our economy and saddling young people like me with...

    Coronavirus

Case counts are irrelevant if the people recover on their own and don't end up in the hospital. We have a higher case count now than we did in April/May, yet hospitalizations and ICU are at roughly 1/6 of what they were in April/May. This is probably because the people catching it are not in the...

    Coronavirus

I wasn't suggesting a free-for-all. There are reasonable restrictions to be had. In the GTA we've been rolled back beyond what's reasonable IMO. Especially when the province/city didn't even care to enforce their own rules in phase 3 anyways. When this all blows over they are going to find that...

Under the age of 50, 11 people in Ontario have died. Protect the vulnerable, let the rest of us get on with our lives.

Sure, there are a lot of millennials who travel and spend frivolously -- don't get me wrong, that is happening too. But there are also lots of millennials that are top earners in their field and still can't afford anything reasonable without completely over extending themselves. You mention...

The immigrants driving up the housing prices are not the refugees coming here with nothing and starting from scratch. I have no issues with such cases. The immigrants driving up the housing prices are the rich international students coming here with mommy/daddy's money and buying property...

I've heard vitamin D and zinc (in moderation, check dosage carefully) help with COVID recovery. GWS.
