Insurance Rate Increase?! How much did yours go up?

My renewal offer from TD-MM went from $830 to $917 with no change to anything. Now this is for a rider with 35+ years of unbroken motorcycle insurance and no collision coverage on the policy. Called them about it and there was nothing they could do, so I looked around online and found the same coverage offered for $820 by Intact. Needless to say my "thanks but no thanks" letter is already on its way back to TD.

My Triumph Sprint 1050 insurance went up from $2,040 to $2,470 (full coverage) with State Farm even thought there was no change in my record or coverage..
I knew I was paying too much to begin with and even put the bike for sale because I thought any insurance will screw me because of 1050 cc. But anyway, this increase prompted me to shop around. The Personal will give me liability only for $493 per year if I insure my car with them… and I’d save about $150 on the car too. I’m good with liability only. This is ridiculously cheap compared to State Farm full coverage!

Usually you get a renewal notice a few months before you current policy is set to expire. You shop around. If you don't find a better rate, pay your current company and all is well (you already have new pink slips sent to you), if you do monthly payments you don't have to do anything as they will just continue to pull from your bank account or credit card.

If you find a better rate, set it up with the new company and have the new policy come into effect at the end of your current policy (look @ the pink slip). Then you have to fax/drop/off email the cancellation form that is provided in the renewal papers to the old company with the time the policy is to end (again see pink slip). If you cancel early you may be subject to fees and you will most likely not get any refund depending on when during the policy you cancel.

Easy peasy.

Carefull on the wording regarding cancellation.
Cancellation will put you in the bad book.
If your at the end of the term your not canceling , you are only not renewing your contract.
Statefarm agent f'd me up with this. After insuring my bike for the whole year i decided to garage that bike ( i have 2 other bikes insured for the road but not with SF) they ask me to fax a cancellation letter that i did.
After 6 months and wanting to put the bike on the road again they wont insure me because of a cancellation record.

Third year renewal up with TD-MM, and it's yet another increase. 1500 to nearly 1650.

23, 4 years M2 and zero accidents or tickets riding a Ninja 250r in downtown Brampton.

Very upset.

my TD-MM is up 10% too.

no change except my bike and I are a year older.

My Wrangler with Statefarm went up 10 bucks a month ...

Haven't received anything about my bike yet.

You are surprised it is cheaper to go from FULL Coverage to Liability only??? That is like saying I am amazed that I bought a Ford Focus and it was WAYYY cheaper than the Bentley I had before..lol

I'm with Desjardins and it dropped $76 from $1172 to $1096. 23yr M Brampton, 11' Kawasaki 250R and it's just liability + comprehensive.

edit: no tickets & at-fault claims

I've been shopping around for Insurance for just liability + comprehensive and it's ridiculous:

TDMM - $1342
State Farm - $2204
Intact - $2355
RBC - $2527

Allstate - Won't do stand-alone policies

went from $1100 to $380. I even called just to make sure it was correct and it was. same coverage btw. not too bad for a 750cc

All tickets and accidents expired, you got married and turned 30? Only explanation for a 70% drop!

Sent from my my mobile using a strange app for damaged people

A thread like this is of little value if you don't know the driving record over the last 2 years, the bike, what part of the city you're in and what you are currently being covered for.

Faaaack... these insurance companies are legit rapists. Mine went up from $1250 to $1680 on my R1 for no apparent reason... hence why its tentatively sold and gonna move to a supermoto and pay like $400 for the year

Define 'no reason'? Looking through your started threads it looks like you have a court date/disclosure thread at least once/year. Unless you've had stellar luck in court, I have my doubts your record is squeaky clean.

according to my insurance company it is... i have not told them anything and they have not pulled it so, yes according to them nothing has changed. And don't tell me they probably pulled it and never told me.. didn't happen.... my good friends both are managers at TDMM and they checked my history and nothing was changed on there end.
Thank you for being informed of my life on here though ;)

Sorry - just being preemptively snarky for the upcoming spring flood of 18 year-olds posting how mean the insurance companies are for not insuring their 6 months of experience with 1 at-fault and 3 speeding tickets history. ;)

I can respect that... but even "older" guys like me, still are getting raped, even with a couple tickets it shouldnt be the way it is, and it just sucks. The teens should definately not even be allowed on sportbikes 600cc and above, so i agree with the ins companies there, but I have paid my dues and still getting hosed.
