Crazy suicide attempt - university student, streamed online

Yeah. It's been 6 years now this week since my late gf died. There wasn't a thing I could do to save her and I tried for years. It bothers me to this day. I still sometimes hope that someone in the distance with a similar shape in a crowded place is her and that it's all been a terrible mistake of some sort.

Other people deserve a lot of blame in it because it was the end culmination of abuse that started in elementary school so there were opportunities to address things but they were ignored and her family had their own problems they were struggling with. By the time I came into the picture the train had already left the station.

Mental illness is no different from a physical illness, just our understanding of it. But the two are interrelated to a certain extent. A physical illness can cause mental illness and vice versa. Best to treat both at the same time.

Crap sorry about your loss.... people Who have never witnessed it truly don't understand or have no clue.......

I have no sympathy.

Kids think they have it so bad they need to kill themselves. Go watch a film on any third world country and see how good you have it.

I guess You never had a Mom, Dad, sister, brother or girlfriend suffer from Depession then..... if you did or ever do you might eat your words !!

You have your opinion I have mine. I am not ashamed.

Absolutely amazing. No brain, no shame I guess. Depression isn't a pissing contest of measurable problems, genius.

Why is 4chan scum? Would you take anyone seriously if they said they would end their own lives? People say "I am going to end myself" on web boards all the time. But no one takes it seriously.

4Chan the home of scum

I get what newman is saying. But, something that hardly affects someone may be devastating to someone else. Be it because of upbringing, life experience or just the way their brain/mind works chemically. It's all on an individual basis. Seen it enough, group of guys have the same bad day. The situation hardly bothers one dude and the one that was beside him is mentally beat up by it.
I deal with it at work from time to time. The key isn't to belittle them and say that their problems are nothing and don't matter, because to that person it IS the worst thing to go through.

But, I can see Newman's point. I've seen some of the worst things you can see, and it has made me so grateful to live where I do and have what I have... We have it pretty good here in Canada in comparison.

You're probably right. However, I haven't so I don't see it the same way you do.

I'm not trying to offend anyone. I just don't understand why people who have a life full of opportunities choose to end it.

Depression is irrational. I've seen it first hand what clinical depression does to someone. It's very difficult to watch.

Well then, maybe you should go visit a psych ward and see all the "normal" people there who are in crisis. Maybe take a few pictures of starving African kiddies and cure them all while you're there.

I mean, how many starving African children have you seen personally up close? If the answer is none then, by your own logic, you have no perspective on either them or mentally ill people and no opinion (of any use) to offer. Rather like real life.

And your "not trying to offend" line doesn't wash either. I'm sure all the starving African people you hold up as shining examples of "the bottom of lifes barrel" would be offended, to name but a few.

I have a different opinion than you. Get over it.

If you can't understand why I have the viewpoint I do, then nothing I say is going to help you figure it out.

Well, it's no different from a physical illness so when a family member of yours, maybe even yourself, gets cancer be sure to remind yourself that you or they deserved it because they ate that Big Mac or smoked a cigarette and that if they lived in Africa that wouldn't have happened.

Sometimes things just happen and people get sick. It's not necessarily their fault and their suffering doesn't necessarily have to be proven to you.

I'm married to a clinical resource manager for a paediatric ward, they have the youth mental health ward for the county at her facility. Financial advantage, great schools and three sq meals a day have nothing to do with depression and the desire to end ones life. Until you've been close and been involved in something like this you wont get it.
We have also had suicide in our family, it was many many years ago, but the effects lasted generations.

I didnt understand the effect and cause for years, now i do.

"The holocaust never happened" is an opinion too.
