fist fights for cheap toasters - the black friday thread

Black friday is the day to carry concealed knives and go shopping. So many people you could easily get away with a little stabby stabby

....and then people tell me that in a real emergency situation people are going to be helping each other? LOL. Look at them! Willing to trample and get into fist fights over non-essential crap!

These tv/toaster/dvd scuffles are a lot more violent than the situations where people were trying to get their hands on flour/oil/milk when it was in short supply in the old country.

I went to CT last night.

Returned a Yardworks snowblower for repair and there were only two people in line at the customer service desk. Also picked up two 5L jugs of Formula1 full synth for $18 ea.

I wonder what fuels this insanity....it's an f$@%ing toaster/mixer/whatever for the love of God....is this stuff really important to these people?

I was watching BT today and they had people at Yorkdale, Eaton Centre and whatever other mall. Wasn't stupid busy but when a guy said he was there since 3:30am to get a $50 gift card....I'd prefer to sleep!

EDIT: just saw a CT flyer and noticed a pair of ramps for $77. That seems like a decent price actually. Might pop in there tonight after work. Can't wait till CT brings in internet shopping.

Dumb people and greed.

When i was in high school i used to work in a mens clothing store (suits, shirts etc)

Every day people would come in and in a calm fashion look at suits, try em on, think about it and buy em like civilized people normally would.

Then on boxing day my boss put up a huge 50% OFF Sign. None of the suits were 50% off, he just switched the tags and doubled the "original price".
I couldn't believe my eyes what i saw next, entire store crowded, people fighting over suits, getting ones that didnt even fit right.
The store basically got cleaned out that day because people thought they were getting a deal. They weren't :lmao:

Are there actual GOOD or GREAT deals out there? Or is it all bullcrap so that the stores just move product off the shelves that's not moving?

I recall CT getting their hand slapped for increasing their prices over a few months and then 'dropping' them for a 'sale' price around Boxing Day.

Its a MSRP gimmick.

Lets say MSRP of a product is 100 bucks, every day they sell it at $75, SAVE 25% everyday.

Then boxing day, black friday, whatever sale comes up and now its 30% OFF!!! MSRP ofcourse, therefore becoming $70. Wow, you saved 5 bucks lol

Majority of the times its the exact same price, as per our own advertisers on here.

That rare occasion you'll get a bit more of a discount if its an older tv/camera or whatever. Notice the price comes back up before christmas, and then back down after.

Its all a BS gimmick, yet people eat it up.

I was shopping for a hard drive at futureshop one time, 5 years ago and they had their newest prices stickered on it, the Black friday etc price with 30% off stickers all over it. I was able to peel back that sticker and underneath it was the regular price sticker. Guess what, exact same price.

Only the unsuspecting shopper who hasnt done his homework would be caught out by such simplistic tricks.

In todays age of information at our fingertips while shopping i can browse for online pricing and compare it to what i'm seeing infront of me.

Reminds me of dominion's "Its fresh or its free", and they got caught simply replacing the expiry date lol Didnt even remove the old stickers but instead put new ones over the old

During the heyday of the desktop computer, one retailer or oem had a commercial running that said "forget about mega-this and giga-that, just tell us what we want and we'll hook you up with a system" - that's when I knew our society went to hell. There's no excuse to be an uninformed consumer nowadays.
