fist fights for cheap toasters - the black friday thread

So, um, for an uninformed Aussie, just what the hell is the deal with Black friday sales? Any why does is seem to turn people into brainless, violent weirdo's?

That's the first Friday after US Thanksgiving when the US retailers want to work up their drones into a shopping-frenzy by offering super-duper-uber-deals (real or imagined)

But but but, why do they call it Black Friday? That's racist!

Have you watched any of the videos? :lmao:

So it's basically a day for the mindless masses to go and buy useless crap they don't really need, with money they don't really have, all under the illusion that they are saving money?

Did like the story of a woman pepper spraying a group in order to get an Xbox console, that's dedication right there

They are thinking they draw you in with a cheap product, and while your there you buy something else.

this

classic sales tactic that happens regularly, every where

limited quantity sales, door crashers... all notorious for this ... clearly it works otherwise retailers would never put anything on sale

Weird considering most of the products on sale are being sold at a loss or at extremely low margin.

Are they?

I read an article that stated electronics mfrs would actually make a stripped down model of a tv for the sales. The 42 inch "brand x" TV that was $500 back in September isnt the same one that was $175 on black friday.

Depends on the retailer. Futureshaft and the other big box stores can get those stripped out models because of their sales volume. Independent retailers can't.

I worked in consumer electronics and we averaged -1% margin on Black Friday.

I'm going to camp in my bed and hope to get some sex

Had sex till 2am, ordered Point-and-shoot camera I've been eyeing and handheld GPS I've been dying for online at sick deals.

Great success
