Weird considering most of the products on sale are being sold at a loss or at extremely low margin.
They are thinking they draw you in with a cheap product, and while your there you buy something else.

limited quantity sales, door crashers... all notorious for this ... clearly it works otherwise retailers would never put anything on sale

I read an article that stated electronics mfrs would actually make a stripped down model of a tv for the sales. The 42 inch "brand x" TV that was $500 back in September isnt the same one that was $175 on black friday.

Depends on the retailer. Futureshaft and the other big box stores can get those stripped out models because of their sales volume. Independent retailers can't.
I worked in consumer electronics and we averaged -1% margin on Black Friday.
Had sex till 2am, ordered Point-and-shoot camera I've been eyeing and handheld GPS I've been dying for online at sick deals.
