Chinese Rotors

How sure are you that the OEMs don't come from China? Even Audi and BMW are loaded with parts from China.

I'm pretty sure my bike and parts are from Japan. There is also a difference between Audi and BMW standards with their Chinese parts than some cheep rotors on Ebay.

It always bugs me too when people make sweeping generalisations like that, but in this case, who is out there testing and validating these parts to help shoppers make a more informed decision about sourcing parts from China?

I mean sure, there are OE parts coming out of there, and they are fine, but that is exactly the type of validation I am looking for. If BMW or Honda say they're good enough for them, then of course their seal of approval will override the "China" stigma since these OEs have their own standards and their own reputations of quality for us to rely on. But the question is about those ebay specials from fly-by-nite companies that we can't tell apart from a hole in the ground. In those cases, the reputation of Chinese products is the only metric we have to evaluate the potential quality of these items.

There's a good reason why China has a reputation for producing crap. We all know the stories of drywall and childrens toys and even milk. In my old job I sourced parts from there, and I know first hand how they will cheap out in very imaginative ways if strict controls aren't put in place to assure quality. I've also seen how they operate in some cases (not OE shops) and I've purchased enough cheap stuff that didn't quite do what it was advertised to be sceptical of Chinese products.

Having said all that, I try to keep an open mind and avoid the stereotype if I can. If I can find a reliable source of information that supports the quality of one or another Chinese item, then that will go a long way to giving me confidence in that particular product.

But outside of OE brands, where are these reliable sources of information?

Have you tried hard braking?
Please update us in a month or two.

Cheers

ps. please properly bed your brakes before attempting to put any pressure on them

Funny, but expected. 90 percent of replies are generalizations from people who have never tried product in question.

Exactly...my 929 is getting a set as well.
A few riders on a Fireblade forum have been racing on CHinese rotors for almost 2 seasons. I will put more weight in their reviews long before people who have never tried them.

I'd try em too

If there is a specific seller that people report as offering reliable parts, then it would be kinda useful to share that info. Or do you have confidence in any Chinese ebay rotor? Because I would have confidence in any OE rotor.

There is a store in the US that is selling them called MadHornets. They get good reviews on CBR Forums for having good service.
I have seen many good reviews specifically about the "Arashi" brand ones.
One fellow ordered generic ebay ones, and was happily surprised when they arrived with the Arashi name on them, but it wasn't specified in the ebay auction what brand they were.
I am trying to narrow down the possibilty of ending up with an unknown pair of rotors, so I am buying from MadHornets instead of ebay.

How long has that been on there? Looks like only % 60 of the pad is actually touching the rotor.....

Most likely the pads haven't been thoroughly been bedded in

Yes that's why i asked how long not why. The area that is making contact looks pretty well broken it. So if its been a long time and still not making %100 contact it's probably time for new pads as the others are just worn too unevenly. And the pads can transfer their uneven wear to the rotor also
