Pay before you pump coming to Ontario?

I always use credit card, would never notice the change. There are no reward points using cash.

Thoughts?

I'm personally opposed to it; simply because I do the majority of my transactions with cash. And my trip to the states taught me that walking into a gas station, putting money down, going back out to fill up, then walking back in to collect change isn't fun; and takes too much time.

Same, I've rode away from gas stations here that have made me do that. I use cash for most my transactions and when I gas up I fill it all the way up. Being treated like a criminal doesn't go over well with me.

I heard someone this morning say "just another Indian dead... there are a billion more to replace him.. no biggie"

I have never kicked anyone out of my stores until today.

Even Canadian credit card users in the States have to go in with their card before pumping. You're not losing out there. But you are losing out here in Canada. When I rode street I used to be able to gas up at the pump using a cc without even having to remove a glove. Hell, if it wasn't a Shell garage I wouldn't even get off my bike. Then in the winter I can gas up my car without having to walk across a slushy, crappy forecourt and fumble about with cash. Credit cards are easy and convenient and several gas stations already pre authorise anyway.

On one hand sometimes i pay by credit and other times i pay cash so i'd like it to stay the way it is. Unfortunately some gas station owners take advantage of people working for minimum wage and take out of their pay whatever they lose if someone pumps and takes off.

So with that said i think the emphasis should be on those owners who are breaking the law by taking money from the employees. However i know that will never happen, so id put up with the inconvenience so that another person doesn't lose their life over a silly 100 dollars.

No big deal for me. I do most of gas transactions through debit card. If it helps to keep wages in the pockets of gas attendants, then I'm all for it.

That's just not right. Although, to be honest, he shouldn't of ran infront of, or close to, a moving vehicle that has just stolen gas.
It's best to just write down the plate number and report it to the cops later.

Apparantly there is a trick to make it work with a postal code.

Wouldn't they get the money back after the police run the plates (which the attendant + security cameras should catch) and find the guy?

in a perfect world yes. however most people who pump and run cover up their plates or use stolen ones. another thing is the cops don't really care about this, so in the end the attendants are left to take the hit.

Most of the time the plates are covered and/or false.
Cop's don't care much for petty theft.. it never really gets resolved unless the criminal is caught doing something bigger..

I briefly caught the news on CP24 and one of the govt. big shots was spouting off about license suspensions, heavy fines, stricter rules etc on people who steal gas.. talk about out to lunch. How about addressing the real issue of rising gas prices? Good ol' politicians.. always looking for the quick fix to keep their jobs.

I never had a drive off come out of my pay. I worked at a Sunoco during highschool for a few years.

I have never heard of any minimum wage employee having a drive off taken out of their pay. I don't know where people get the idea that it does.

If someone robs a bank does it come out of the teller's pay??

on gtam it does

I understand why the guy tried to stop him, dude was probably making next to nothing trying to support his family and then his boss says if someone steals gas you gotta pay man. Its a sad loss of life for a pretty stupid reason.

I got no issues paying before, in fact I always do just because its quicker for me.

When he was waiting on a table did a runner on my son. It came out of his money. I think that over the years things may have changed Caboose. I have no supporting stats but I can imagine drive aways are way more common than when you were in high school.

I feel terrible about this.
Someone died for less than $120 lousy dollars
Now there is a widow and an orphan who have a big money problems that cannot be fixed anymore with $120
Had I known, I would had paid the fu*****ng $120 myself if that was all it took to save a life

I thought that only happened back home (Mejico).

So I have been exclusively going to Shell since they had the feature to fill up by pre pay, you didn't need to choose a pre pay amount. They are progressively changing there pay at pump systems now to get rid of this feature. Now they would prefer me to fill up then go in to pay. So they are trying to prevent people from filling up and driving off yet it sounds like they are promoting it now. Clearly makes no sense taking out this feature...

I worked, for 1 day at the then Sunoco on Erin Mills /403 location. I was explicitly told that runners would be docked from my pay until recovered by police. At the time, being a young teenager, I didn't know the difference. I highly doubt the (mostly) lower-income citizens know their rights and have access to a million other jobs that will be much different.
