And they still get sold out arenas

Blind loyalty to a faceless corporation disguised as regional pride. The corporation knows it doesn't need to offer its fans anything, not even a decently performing team because they'll still be making a killing off the suckers who pay through all of their orifices for overpriced tickets, junk food and Made in China merchandise. As long as the fans are stupid enough to be ripped off on that scale, MLE will continue fleecing them without offering anything in return. That's why I'm boycotting them and encouraging others to do so for as long as they continue raping the fans up the rectum. We're not talking about European clubs with deep ties to the community that go way back in history. We're talking about a for-profit corporation with a licence to print money due to fan stupidity.

It's not about the hockey unfortunately..it's about being in the arena..ever wonder why the entire lower bowl is empty after the intermissions?? They don't care..

I don't follow hockey but am genuinely curious right now as to why the Leafs, as a team with a lot of money, can't make it into the playoffs? Is coaching and management it? Bad players?
I'd honestly like to know.

I think the anti leaf fans are even worse than the leaf faithful.

Lol you guys have a lot of pent up anger.

Plenty of ahl and ohl to watch within decent driving distances.(incl the marlies:)

I don't think it's necessarily " anti - leafs " sentiment ..... More like "horrible value for your hard earned money " sentiment , year after year ... DEAD LAST (122nd out of 122 teams ) in all combined professional sports on the continent shouldn't be acceptable to any fan ....An original six team , that is going nowhere fast , and ownership that doesn't give a damn , as long as those seats are full ..... Real hockey fans would stay away until the product on the ice improves ... That might get the owner's attention ... If ever there was an argument for another NHL team in southern Ontario , this is it .... Personally , I'll continue to support my local OHL club , thanks .... Cheers , Les

It's all of that. There's a salary cap, so you can't spend your way to success anymore. You have to draft somewhat sucessfully..but that takes time to show..especially when the scouting staff is so numerous. It's a lot of work to put the right people in place and then be able to start drafting well. It's attitude..the media..pressure..lack of confidence..coaching..it's a lot of things. Honestly, despite what many experts want to tell people, the difference between a playoff team and a non-playoff team isn't that great. Look at Ottawa..or Tampa..finals one year, junk the next...same players..same coaches..

I love paying $18 for the Marlies, sitting right down front and watching those games. Toronto isn't a hockey city..it's a Leafs city..sad.

Good luck with that! Season's tickets has a waiting list of like 7 years..

I knew they've sucked for a long time...... I jumped off the bandwagon years ago....... check out ESPN's rundown of professional sports teams... welcome to the basement Leaf fans....... Yikes......
http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/teamrankings

First of all its ESPN, they are garbage, biased. They have the senators a head of the canucks, really?? Shows how dumb this list really is. I don't put much stock in anything ESPN, writes.

this actually makes no sense...
the corporation hires a GM to run the team... the team makes the playoffs, the corporation makes more money. Its in their best interest to put together a winning product. They just haven't because the leafs suck and management has made some quesitonable decessions.

blaming MLSE for the leafs woes is like blaming the gun for killing people.

yes, the fans follow blindly, but that doesn't mean MLSE isn't trying to put together a quality product.

This all falls on Burke IMO. He's had 4 yeras to turn it around, he hasn't.

Ottawa made the playoffs this year because of several new talents and Spezza playing well
Tampa was riding a hot goalie, so i wouldn't take "same players, same coaches"

in 4 years the leafs should be in the playoffs by now. every other team has been in the playoffs atleast once since the lock out... except the leafs.

we draft like crap, and we trade away picks
LA built thru the draft (and to a lesser extend smart trading) Quick, Brown, Kopitar, Douty
Boston built thru the draft (some good luck with Thomas), Bergeor, Kreci, Lucic, Marchant
Don't have to mention Chicago, or Pittsburgh, we all know their stories

etc etc..

Burke said he would do that AFTER trading away 2 firsts and and second....

new NHL, new way to win... thru the draft

Burkes biggest problem is his loyalty to his friends, he should of hired Mark Crawford, but he had to hire his buddy Randy Carlyle, before that he hung on to Ron low to long. Its time for Burke to go, but we can't lay the blame all on Burke, previous GM's traded away all our draft picks.

agreed, I hope the best for Carlye, but in seriousness he had Pronger and Niedemayer to work with. I still hold Burkie responsible as yes, he started with little (he still did have draft picks when he started) but 4 years later and we still don't have 1 player that we can say is going to be a future all star, MAYBE Riely, but he hasn't played a full year yet the AHL.

In before Sunny shows up and posts iLeafs.

Get off the couch...stop paying ridiculous prices for their merchandise...If you love hockey join a league or 2 or 3,....play shinny....support your local teams. Play more....watch less!!!

I hear what you're saying Fin..but one player doesn't make a team..or two players.. The line is extremely fine between winning and losing. Tampa won the cup and had almost every player in the lineup and lost in the first round the next. Same with Ottawa..4 straight to Pitt. Montreal made a run to the conference finals..then dropped like a rock. Most of the players were still there. It's coaching, confidence, luck, injuries. The draft too is more important now for sure. Edmonton has been drafting high lately..they're stockpiling players..but they're still stuck in the basement. I suspect they'll do well shortly with the number of high first-rounders they've been drafting..but they still need the other ingredients as well. There's really no easy answer unfortunately.
