Follow Along: 600rr to California

Damn what an epic trip. i just spent the last 2 hours reading every comment.
Ride Safe Dude!
Amazing pics/videos

Our experience (YMMV) has been that if you pay the tickets in question promptly so that they don't have to come looking for you, they won't show up on your Ontario record, either. Reporting to Ontario is just extra paperwork for them, and all they really want is your money. May vary from one state to another.

+1. My experience as well.

Dude - see if you can sneak in 24 between Minturn and Leadville.... it is just off of I-70 just before Vail. You can take the exit for Minturn and go south to Leadville and just go back up.... or you can get to Leadville and take 91 (North Poplar street) back to I-70.

If you have more time and the weather is warm, you can try Independence Pass 82. Around Glenwood Springs you take 82 to Carbondale, then keep on 82 into Aspen and keep going on 82 to 24, go north on to Leadville then back up to Minturn. Note - Independence Pass is at very high altitude.... so you have to make sure the weather is warm.

BTW - I-70 through the Glenwood Springs area is quite fun (for an interstate), just be careful with the metal expansion joints on some of the bridges if it is wet out.

Just got in a few mins ago. I took highway 141 in Colorado. Great Scenery! You're basically riding between the canyon for at least 150kms and its pure twisties. Unfortunately I got caught out while it got dark and saw lots of deer and bats. I made it to the hotel safe though.

If you check the thread in Laws/Regulations you will see that 41/50 states have reciprocity with Ontario. That means that they will automatically be reported to Ontario. Nevada and Wisconsin, the states where he received tickets DO report. California, where he got the warning, does not have reciprocity with Ontario. My guess is they will effect his insurance.

The list of 41 states that have reciprocity with Ontario, according to that thread, is for failure to pay. If thats the case, I'll just pay it and hope it goes away.

I'm planning to take 24 on the way to Boulder tomorrow.

Independence pass is unfortunately not open yet. Altitude and cold isnt really a problem. I was at 4km altitude at one point in the trip, it was cold but I was doing okay.

Nice moving picture. I'm amazed you can ride in that position.... being squished against the tank like that. Can you at least stand up on the pegs now and then, or would your stuff move too far forward if you did that?

It was harder when I was in warmer weather. I put my rain gear in that garbage bag and it took up more space than usual. In those few days that I had to store the rain gear in the garbage bag, my balls were really sore by the end of the day.

I can stand and hang my legs down. The stuff wouldnt really move forward, it was tied down pretty well.

I had a little bit of bad luck this morning. I found a nail in my tire and it caused it to go flat. I was staying at an advrider's place for the night and he helped me plug it so I could ride it to the stealership. Got MIchelin Road 3's on them now...shoudl have did that at the beginning of the trip. Total damage: $550 for tires/labour.

Video of my 2nd attempt at "The Snake" Mulhulland Highway:

This road is trickier than it looks on video. Tight decreasing/increasing radius turns, etc. Notice the ducati at 0:30!

It's unfortunate that you had to get them from the stealership, however you got a yourself some good rubber there! I had the PR2's on my old F4 and really liked them... and from I've heard the PR3's are even better.

Another great video! I'm drooling over that road... 2 bad we don't have more like that one here at home.

How were your older tires holding out in comparison? I think you'll like sport touring rubber, but be a bit extra careful when the tires and road is cold, they take a wee bit longer to warm up.

The guy that I bought my bike from did a journey from Toronto to Vancouver on SS. He said he literally came to Vancouver, grabbed a coffee and headed back...

Winter storm warning for all of Colorado. I'm going to try to head North and then East...If I get stuck in the snow I'll be camping at the side of the road...

Stay warm! and remember to stay visible if you do decide to camp near the road

wow the weather is so messed up in US. Might've been a better idea to ride in July. I know you were on a time constraint, but this sucks.

About 10 years ago my parents went to the states, and my dad got cought doing 100 in a 65 zone in Pennsylvania. The ticket was like $400. They never paid it and nothing happaned.

April and May are some of the worst months to tour the U.S. Late snowstorms in the mountains (which means they are wet and heavy), higher winds than found in the winter and of course the Tornado's that crop out of nowhere and seriously disrupt your plans. Twice now I have run into Tornado's, once in April, once in May. I now stay away from the plain states during the spring season. It is NOT fun leaning against a deserted building, next to your motorcycle, while a massive storm pounds down all around you.
