z1000 or r1?

You could always buy that Tuono Factory at Corsa... top flight suspension, 140hp engine... handles like a top shelf superbike and feels more violent than a 180hp i4... :)

You need to get one fact straight: there's nothing sport tourer about the Z1000 and other sport nakeds. Aside from lack of fairings and clipons these are supersport bikes. If the suspension is up for it, the bike will do everything a supersport can.

I dont bother with ss bikes any more. The right naked bike provides all the same thrills with none of the torture-rack ergonomics. Adding to that, most nakeds tend to be geared and tuned for a stronger midrange so you get a better overall streetbike that will actually feel faster in most everyday situations.

BAM! thats the kinda post im looking for LOL

if i go that route, i hear a zx6 fork swap is super easy and delicious...also the rear shock is a quick swap too!

next...

So whats your budget? Maybe there's something better than a Z1000 out there...

Yeah I guess at 5.5 you're not gonna get anything better/newer than that Z1000. Still a great bike though. Obviously not as much top end steam as an R1, but it makes just about the same amount of torque, and its not as peaky as the R1 in its delivery.

My office mate here had a Z1000 for a while but said he sold due to the fact it wheelied too easily.

That's a reason to buy it, not sell it.

My vote is for the naked hooligan bike.

the r1 also fits in to this category lol

Yeah that's true but a naked bike is more street wild if you know what I mean, you are sitting more upright, have more torque down low, can do wheelies easier and it feels wilder because you have no fairings to protect your *** from wind and elements, it just feels more raw. You ride the fully faired bike, you feel like you are riding a motorcycle. You ride a naked, you feel like you are riding a raw machine with two wheels attached to it. :D

If that makes any sense.

Plus if you ride a naked bike you get less ppl asking you "Is that a ninja??"

Try and at least sit on a Z1000 if you cant test ride one....Personally my experience coming from all 600cc sport bikes, I totally hated the very upright seating position of the Z...I know people always complain about lack of comfort on sport bikes, but Im not like that so I hated it...Good power but I just cant sit like that on a bike yet...Id do the R1 if it was me based on riding position alone...

and thats exactly what scares me...i never complain about SS riding position. In fact i feel right at home. But i have plenty of exposure with various uprights.

i just hope that seating position doesnt drive me nuts and lead me to regretting the buy...

You are comparing

The would be be great to tour on / longer rides - its designed for that market segment.

You can always customize your Z....

The riding position is an adjustment you have to make. After 2 days you'll think nothing of it. After 2 weeks you'll never wanna ride a supersport again and it will feel completely alien to you.
