z1000 or r1?

Stuck between the two bikes....both excellent condition, low KM, roughly the same price after i do what i need to...

r1 comes with more stuff, z1000 is stock.

z1 - 2004
r1 - 2006

Ive never really tried a sport touring. But i love the looks of the z1000s with the belly and visual mods.

r1 on the other hand, its cheap, great condition and has all the trimmings...

I seem to buy a bike every year, gotta stop haha.

Which do you think is easier to sell?

Rare z1000 or run of the mill everyone wants one - r1?

coming from a zx6, will the z1000 feel like a train?

Z1000 all the way.. but I might be a little bias.

Z1000 would be a lot cheaper in insurance.

You kinda answered your own question about which is easier to sell "everyone wants one - R1". The Z is tough to sell, people for some dumb reason aren't as drawn to naked bikes.

And yes the Z will feel a lot more powerful than the ZX6 you're riding.

thanks for the reply.

maybe i phrased that wrong. totally wrong.

will the Z feel like toyota corolla? lol...in terms of handling...

im worried ill hate it, but its obviously way more comfortable and probably a great street bike.

I assume it would hold value better than the r1, but not as easy to sell. They are very rare in toronto. plenty in quebec though.

The z1K won't handle like a R1... but it will handle... and differently. The R1 will love long fast corners, the kind that can burn your license up, whereas the Z1000 will be happier at a lower pace. They are really different bikes. Insurance is an issue. The R1 has better suspension and more power. The two aren't that simple to compare in some senses...

My office mate here had a Z1000 for a while but said he sold due to the fact it wheelied too easily...

Of course I told him he was a pussy

He now rides a GSXR600

Dave if you didn't sale the zx6r than buy the z1 for the street and use the zx6r for track only. if the zx6r is gone than....go with the r1 regardless, i know you still love the speed and the sportbikes, don't get me wrong i love the z1000 but i don't think you're quite ready for a naked bike, i might be wrong but that's my opinion.

Agree :)

But the same torque is so comfy when you ride in in heavy traffic.

The only cons of Z1000 is the seat - on long rides (>100km) I can feel every square cm of my butt.
:D

good call, the zx6 is going...its to afford the street&track plans...

its worth to much to track...

this is what im worried about...I absolutely love the look of z1000. But am worried it wont be for me. As Sempre said, am i ready for a naked bike lol?

as for the seat, a corbin is a must have mod for these...
also wheelie's too much? sounds perfect lol

I was torn too this year between a sport tourer and ss bike. Eventually i said to myself hey i'm still young and can handle the abuse the SS put on the body for another few years to be able to enjoy the pure essence of a sport bike. Probably in the next 5 years I will make the switch though.

How old are you?
Where do you ride?
2up ever?

I have had the same dilemma last year just like you, at the end i went back with another sportbike the zx6r
monster edition! Now i have two sportbikes...figure that out! You can read all the replys in this tread but at the end do what ever is best for you.;-)

If it were me, I'd go with a Z1000 but I like naked sports over SS.. The bike is also much much cheaper to insure compared to an R1.. Its probably also less of a theft target too. I'm not sure if I'd get a 2004 though. I'd probably be looking at something a little more current.

I was close to buying one last year and with my shopping around, I noticed that it took quite a while for the Z1000's I was eyeballing to sell. I imagine an R1 would sell much faster. So thats a negative if you plan to ride it and then offload it for something else rather soon.

I rode a z1000 a few years ago and they're fun. Lots of low/mid torque and still goes on top (not like a full ss though). If your going to have a track bike and a street bike I'd say the z is a better option. I have a zx10 for the street and since getting a track bike I just kinda cruise around and enjoy the ride (definatly get on it here and there) and would like a more comfortable street bike but I love her too much to let her go.

agreed, this dilemma is not fair! im too young to have second thoughts on a SS.

If only someone would let me test their z1000 hahaha!

im so torn here...

I was in your shoes last year. I am 38 young( I ban anyone who's says it's old ) and thought I was ready for that next stage in my life and picked up a cruiser, wasted all that money on taxes ect.. lets just say 2 hours of riding it I hated it, never felt so unsafe, felt like a idiot driving it, wasn't my style and realized I was not ready for a cruiser style bike....had the bike up for sale that day and back on a ss I went..

oh *****, thats a rough go Rich.

But that was a full cruiser?...i figure the Z is the best of both worlds. kinda like a SS.
power, handling (after i swap the forks with a zx6 :)], wow factor, good looks! rarity
