WTF Was That?

Sunday, around 11:00 am, Hockley Valley Road, east of Hockley General Store
I stopped at the school for a quick smoke. Saw a couple bikes come up a side road and turn west on Hockley. Then a couple more. And more. All told, maybe about a 100 bikes. Traffic on Hockley has the right of way (no stop sign) at that intersection but stopped to let the bikes through, which was very cool of them.
Now the WTF part: I have never seen such a clusterfuk as these bikes. Wobbling through the intersection, bunched up in no discernible formation, some stopping at the stop sign, some going straight through. Taking the corner singly, in pairs and threes. It was ugly and I'm amazed nobody went down. I'm even more amazed people participated in this and stuck with it; I would have hightailed the other way ASAP.
The topper were two vans at the end of the procession which, I assume, were with the bikes. I assume this because afetr the last bike went through, the traffic on Hockley started moving again, only to have both these vans blast through the stop sign and cut off the drivers who had waited patiently for the bikes to clear.

There was a fundraising ride yesterday and I believe it was to be in that area.... Whether that was it or not, I don't know but whatever it was, I'm guessing some of the riders that took part don't know how to group ride properly. Must've truly sucked for those that do!

A friend and I rode Hawkley yesterday early afternoon. Didn't see a whole lot of bikes like you describe. However, I was riding behind a minivan driver who couldn't seem to keep it on the road. Kept going onto the shoulder and dragging debris back onto the asphalt with him. What a putz. Just acted as a prime example of how road conditions can change very quickly.

Hockley might not seem too bad, but the only people on four wheels that can navigate it safely are locals - tourists are hopeless. I remember once going back towards Orangeville, just past the General store seeing a pickup in the ditch. Gravity was desperately trying to put the thing on its roof, all it would have taken was a tiny nudge. I started to pull over but the driver just waved me on lol.

Was a fund raiser that started in Toronto, and ended up in Barrie, yup.

I have been on one large group ride, and that was about 7 years ago. Never again. My limit is now a total of four bikes, preferably three.
