WTF is wrong with hollywood

You're not going to like this:

Today on the news I saw that they're currently working on a Ghostbusters remake.

there's still lots that is worthwhile to see from hollywood. it may not be the golden age, and yes, it's getting harder to mine the nuggets from the dross, but there have been some gems. . .

there have always been 'paul blart mall detective' films that sold tickets and popcorn, but for every 20 of those, there was a 'wages of fear', or 'doctor zhivago'. . .

i would put 'no country for old men' up against anything that has been made in the history of cinema. terrence malick always does interesting stuff. clint eastwood has become a very decent director.

quite enjoyed united 93, into the wild, and recently, "drive".

formulaic movies have been around forever. . .they used to be called serials. . .mainstream films have been derivative since at least the late '70s. genre films come and go. . .as for remakes, they remade true grit but no one really complained because it was pretty damn good, if not better than the original in some respects.

apparently the new tintin movie will be good. . .here's hoping they don't ruin a childhood icon

Did you guys see the trailer for Battleship? LOL they made a movie out of that stupid board game that everyone used to cheat at. :D

Problem with remakes is that we have emotions vested in the originals. We've seen them when we were impresionable and young and when everything seemed bigger and better. You really have to hit a homerun for a remake to be seen as "better". The originals have aged and become cult classics, even if they were inferiour movies, they are still seen as better.

The other issue is all these new movies based on comic books. They all disappoint. How can you tell an entire story of a superhero and all the intricacies that we have grew up in 1.5 hours? You simply cant, and is the reason why all those movies fall short UNLESS they bocome trilogies etc etc.

..if my reality was anything like these so-called reality shows, I'd kill myself.
I have to agree... I don't like reality shows one bit! Mind you, I also hate "fear" based TV shows like Dr. Oz... and I can't believe anyone liked any of the new Transformers movies. Michael Bay SHOULD quit his day job.

I agree that very few writers and directors can put together a movie that entices an audience. One of my all-time favourites was Good Will Hunting.

Recent movies that don't suck and are somewhat "different"

Inside Man
Blood Diamond
Deja Vu
Inception
Tropic Thunder
Repo Men
Inglorious Basterds
The Hurt Locker

There are still some good things coming out of Hollywood

I wouldnt consider any of those movies recent ( yet you are right, they are some good ones )

its just all the friggin remakes. Is hollywood really out of fresh ideas that we needed a new Conan the Barbarian ?

They even made a reamke out of one of my favorite cult flicks Death Race 2000, and the new one SUCKED in comparison.

im shocked they havent remade " the warriors "

All 2006 or later. Inception and Repo Men aren't recent? Well then I don't even know anymore!

its like they are all copying off each other...

I mean, just look at those chick flicks.... Friends with benefits, No strings attached and Just go with it (that one is not exactly the same but similar enough) all come out within a few months of each other?

really!? i mean REALLY!? Its like two producers overheard the same conversation about a "good movie" and they both jumped on it at the same time...
