WTF is wrong with hollywood

And from a story standpoint, Avatar brought nothing new to the table. It was a cookie cutter "soldier falls in love with local girl, then turns on his buddies to save her people" story. There are hundreds of them.

Wasn't it even more cookie cutter than that being basically the story of the invasion of North America by the White Man?

TV has some great stuff going on you just can't get most of it up here through normal channels. Justified, Boardwalk Empire, SoA...there's a few good ones out there.

I refuse to go to a theater unless it's for some big blockbuster action movie...it's just not worth it.

Yep. I agree.

I turned off transformers 3 after about 20 minutes. it was just too frustrating. i kept shouting " just bring on the ****ing robots and make them fight "

If there's one movie remade I'd like to see a modern version of Soylent Green. Now that would be cool!!

from what i understand the new Thing is not a "remake" but works with the original storyline. i'm looking forward to it but will probably be dissapointed.

in the end, for me, one of the best movies was the simplest....Limitless, not crazy CGI, just good writing and good acting.

I'm a fan of old movies and even the one you guys remember is just a slasher flick, compared to the original 1951 movie. I was also very disappointed (but not surprised that I was) by the remake of "The Day the Earth Stood Still." The original was the first anti-nuke movie.

Honestly, the original is pretty scary without the need for gore and special effects. I suppose there is a skill to crafting suspense and fear. I admire some of the old directors and actors and their ability to create emotion with simple props. Storyline and acting... Still, Kurt Russel as MacCready is epic.. :-)

Technically it's a prequel. The new Thing takes place in the Norwegian station before the alien escaped as a dog to the American station.

Huh..that's not all bad..I might check that out.

It seems all the good writers have gone to writing "reality" shows as that seems to be where the money is.
My gf was watching a reality show where the one girl was going to call her friend that she hasn't talked to in a couple years, So she calls and at the other end they are filming her pick up the phone and say "I haven't heard from you in years, How are you" ? If she hasn't heard from her in years wouldn't she have found it kinda weird that there is a cameraman in your kitchen while you are eating breakfast?

Reality show are about as unscripted as professional wrestling.... nothing happens that's not supposed to...

Even as a kid fond of Saturday afternoon Cheepnis*, Marshal Dillon as an alien didn't do it for me.

And that movie was the Thing From Another World. Everyone shortens it to the Thing.

For me, Hollywood jumped the shark long time ago. I don't miss it one bit.
Watch some foreign movies. Cannes over Oscars any day.

Kurt as Jack Burton was epic. Kurt as Todd 3465 was epic. Kurt as MacReady was just another remake, to me.

Marshal Dillon or not, the story just worked for me just like "Forbidden Planet" (really just a re-imagining of Shakespeare's "The Tempest" in many ways) worked for me. I've got "The Day the Earth Stood Still" on DVD. Still looking for "Forbidden Planet."

Depends on the area of release. In theatres the original was known as both "The Thing" and "The Thing From Another World", depending upon where you saw it.
