would you take a picture if you saw someone sketchy staring at your bike?

Amazingly, we have a helpful post from turbo  Basically I'd tell the dude "Buddy, you're in a public place with no reasonable expectation of privacy. I am certainly within my legal rights to take pictures of strangers on the street, especially when they are pacing back and forth in front of my house. If you've got a problem with that, bug your MP."

Just tell the guy "piss off", if he tries to argue ignore him.

If he sticks around get the hose, bike needs a wash right...

Yea I would have done the same thing. Especially if you're getting a strange vibe off of him. It's a good way to let him know that you're aware of his presence and you're agressive in the protection of your property should anything happen. I say good call.

absolutely you did the right thing.

He could have been scoping the bike, you, the house or all of the above.

I make note of every vehicle that doesn't belong in our area and everybody who walks by. We live in a cul de sac so there shouldn't be any drive through traffic.
Better safe than sorry.

Chuck Norris stared at my bike once, and that's why you don't ever hear about him anymore.

I just drove through a cul de sac in a shifty-looking car today.. Twice  One time I was just exploring to see if it was an alternate exit and the other time I was looking for my wife (we're new to the neighborhood and she got a liitle lost)

i would have told him to get the **** out of here straight up. id tell him i took your picture because you are on or near my property and you look sketchy

I would have shot off several dozen images of this guy. Since your a smaller female I would have stayed well back from him and not engaged in conversation. If he stepped on your property I'd ask him to step back onto the public sidewalk. Failing that, I'd use the cell to call the police. There are a lot of ill people out there. He could be harmless but maybe not.

I think you're way to paranoid, seriously. No one steals 250's for one thing, they go after supersports. The guy was just interested in the bike, this is normal. I get people looking and staring at me and my bike ALL the time. You can't blame when you got a sexy bike :)

One morning there was a car that pulled up at the end of my house. My car was in the garage with it closed (both bikes in there). This white corolla was just sitting there, partially blocking my driveway. I noticed from inside the house. 10 minutes he was still there and I had to go to work so I opened the garage and tinkered in there for a bit....dude is still blocking the drive. He finally moves and went down the street, turned around and parked on the other side of the street about 8 houses down. I drove down to the car to take a pic shortly afterwards, the guy was no longer inside but the car was there....maybe he was lost and looking for an address but regardless I took a pic.

Anything suspicious in your neighbourhood and you are wary, nothing makes more sense than capturing potential evidence. You did the right thing. Confrontations suck, but surely whatever he was doing was attracting attention.

OP very smart decision...I think if someone gives you that feeling its probably warranted.....

Also you would be suprised how many people dont know a 250 is a 250...so many people thought mine was a 600 including bikers...

Wrong. People will steal anything. Just this morning one of the guys at the gym was saying his car was broken into last night in his driveway. They stole a pack of gum. People are scumbags.

I would have done the same cept I would have tucked a switch blade or bottle of dog spray into my pocket before I left the house. I'm of the mindset I'd rather be in jail and alive then dead and/or raped.

Too true... had my car in an underground parking garage overnight and an ex's place. Came out in the morning, the driver's side window was smashed.
Stereo, subs and amps - still there. CD's - still there.
Opened case of no-name brand diet coke - gone.

Nice big repair bill (didn't want to go through insurance 'cause I had just claimed a windshield replacement a month earlier) for a $4 case of pop. Grrrr.

sorry bit of a long story to ask a simple question: Ok so maybe ive gone off the deep end... I was warming up my bike and there was this guy who I've never seen in my neigbourhood before. I see hes walkin slowly like he has no purpose up and down the sidewalk. I back up my car to take the bike out and hes still pacing between my house and my neigbour's...
I go inside to grab something (I can see my bike but with the screen door I guess you cant see in)
I see said guy stop in front of my driveway and just stand there staring at my bike...
It weirds me out because as I open the door to let him know I still have an eye on the bike..he starts pacing again but never very far...

sooo I whip out my phone and take a few pics of him as I step out to lock my door...if something goes down (yes I know I have a lowly 250 but I love it anyway!) I at least have a starting point?

As Im gearing to go...guy starts calling out to me saying "did you take my picture"
ME: "yes I did"
Him: "you have no right to take a pic of me"
Me: youre pacing back in forth in front of my property, ive never seen you before, you stop and stare at my bike and are there with no purpose. I am protective of my property so yes I did.
Him: This is your property? (indicating the sidewalk)
Me: I took a pic from my porch so yes I took a pic of you on my property
Him: (going on a rant) I dont care about your bike This is canada no one steals bikes (yes he did say it).
Me: Regardless of where it is...my property(ies) my right to do what I can to protect it
Him: yelling at me again (something about being in Canada and how im taking a picture of HIM...how would I feel if He took a pic of ME...)
Me: Sir, anyone who did what you did I would do the exact same thing no matter the age, race, gender...IF you have an issue I will stay right here, you can go right ahead and call the cops (since he was loosing it at this point). Also if you take a pic of me while im on my property no where near yours (wherever that is)...theres no rationale and would be very problematic having pictures of a stranger on their own property on your phone.
Him: (to the person he was apparently talkin on the phone one with his headset)...well she took my picture I want to know why! she has no right..as he walks away not resolving anything.

Sooo to summarize: if it was you and you see someone questionable...would you take a pic? are there cases where this ISNT ok?

I dont know what I coulda done outside of that...but now im worried im gonna come home to keyed car or a pushed over bike from this guy...

i woulda confronted the individual and asked him wtf hes doin pacin around my house! on another note i got cameras outside my house from previous incidents...so the very few times my bike or car is outside i still got my eyes on them and have caught a few people circling and walking around my driveway which really pisses me off

If I were you I'd call the police and see if anything hinky has happened in your neighbourhood in the last while. I always go with my gut feeling and since you felt this guy was out of place perhaps you are right too. Never hurts to check with the police just in case.

Although I dont believe the OP did anything illegal, or wrong, I would hate to live in a world where I felt I needed to take a photo of every stranger that stopped in front of my house to look at my bike. Perhaps better safe than sorry, but I think pulling out the camera might have been a bit of an overreaction.
