Would you buy a helmet from Crappy Tire?

Is it made in China? If so then no I would not. If not then, go for it if you'd like... but I have purchased several helmets, and the more I spend the happier I am with the product and quality. Like others have said, you only have one head, so don't skimp out.

I went from a HJC cheap helmet, to a mid range Shark helmet. It did made a world of diff in terms of weight, comfort and air flow. I cannot imagine a helmet from Canadain Tire. Do more looking around for a better helmet, there are always sales out there.

More money does not equal more protection as has already been pointed out. More money might equal better graphics, sometimes lower noise but not always by any means, more comfortable liners etc. The line you spouted is a delight to an ad-mans ears.

On my short time on this planet I have yet to see a product made in China that has been of better quality then that of one made in Italy, Japan, Canada, or the US. Think what ever you want to justify saving a couple bucks.

I'm very familiar with ISO. I'm also aware that the auditors that give you your flag are not as daft as you have suggested. Having had to deal with them personally, its not that simple.

I am a ceritifed ISO auditor, just FYI. It's nothing to do with being daft, it's procedure. Individual auditors do have the right to exercise some flexibility.

But we digress, I would NOT buy a helmet from CT. CT signs a contract for a product with a company and nickel & dimes it to death, usually causing the company to provide a product with less quality, similar to big box audio stores. If you find they are selling a known product, check the product ID # and compare it to what a dedicated store sells. It will sometimes be different by 1 letter or number somewhere in the 10 to 15 digit ID. This denotes that the product has something different, maybe a plastic piece instead of a metal piece somewhere in the design. This keeps costs down.

If I have a mis-hav somewhere up north and I could not replace my helmet with a proper one to head home then yes, wear it till I get home and can grab my backup bucket, otherwise no.

now THAT is an interesting tip of the day.

Apple, meet Zero_5; Zero_5, meet Apple (you know Apple, that "tiny" little company that is the gold standard of well-made products).

I'll let you two get acquainted...play nice.

but I'm saying where the option is available, I don't mind paying more for better quality.

Apple, meet Zero_5; Zero_5, meet the best quality phone/tablet company in the world (courtesy of Chinese manufacturing and innovation).

According to? Just curious, what brand of helmet do you trust to protect that intellegent little mind of yours?

Hmmmm, given that you don't own any Apple products, I was helping you out and filling in the gaps in that little closed universe (to complement my "intellegent"(sic) little mind of mine...).

The internet is a wonderful thing, use it, mmmmmmmkay?

Sorry cupcake, don't own one - I'm a Blackberry guy.

Thanks for playing!

Hugs 'n kisses.

P.S. And rather than being a touch on the jumpy and snarky side, had you done a casual search you'd have noticed that some pretty popular helmets (Scorpion) e.g. EXO-700, EXO-1000 that are both DOT and SNELL certified (guess they do know how to build high quality stuff...) are made...in...*gasp*...CHINA.

You do realize that ISO9000 adherance simply means that they have to follow only what they themselves have written down as their own processes. Simply put, they do what they say they are going to do. If they write down that as quality control that employee A polishes the helmet with their forehead then that's a pass.

Not too many people realize this. ISO don't care what quality you're making so long as your process is exact, reproducable and documented to death.

Anyway, the question is whether you would buy a helmet from CT. Thousands of articles/forum posts on helmet recommendations and it always come down to an individual choice of cost, comfort and quality you are happy with.

I don't think he was saying they're daft. Just that ISO certification doesn't mean quality products.

It's not the flash. It's called the "Classic Star" paint scheme.New this spring.Cool huh?

Wouldn't it be cheaper to paint the bike to match the helmet? J/k. I love the look. Very Richtoven's Flying Circus.

To the OP's question - I wouldn't buy a helmet from CT. Mostly because I've not gotten good customer service from them and also because of the point's made above about the big box push to keep prices low by reducing quality.
